Bus vs Metro?
I see that bus depot is 2x more expensive than metro station and maintenance is also higher.
Does this mean I should skip having bus service in my city and focus on metro?

Use buses to feed your Metro. Soushi, Blake Walsh and grapplehoeker have extensive information on this subject.

one bus depot will service your whole city, but you will need lots of metro stations... personally i use both, i use the metros to move lots of people to different areas and then buses to get them around those areas

I use both, extensively. I don't really bother with passenger trains, but i should explore that more.

if u have a city with high tourism use more metro if u have a city with alot of traffic. personally i like to use both and also use taxi depots alot becuz they are very effective

I also use both quite extensively in harmony. I usually try to have bus stations near metro stops. I use passenger trains to connect population centers.

Trains are great when you build a "multi headed" city, for example on maps with a difficult terrains/islands. Put trains between the various "town" and people will use them.

Also, they look really cool.

Taxi is not effective at all IMO, since you basically replace a pocket car by a taxi, which ends up being the same, it's just cosmetic.

I have got into the habit of placing the big bus station next to a train station, in different parts of my city. Then have different bus routes collecting the people and taking them to the train station...with the stations connected to different parts of the city in a sort of loop. The only issue I have with using just this method, is that the bus stops are stupidly over crowded, so I might sometimes add a few metros which go to the train stations.

Can I know if bus route should be short or long? Should it always connect residential to industrial zone or can a bus route simple loop along an industry area without connecting to residential area?

It should be fairly short, have lots of smaller bus routes than one big one. I connect my industry to residential with a train.

I dislike using metro. It's really expensive... PLUS, unlike bus stops, each metro station uses up potential zoning space. I mean, so does a bus station, but you only need one or two of those to service an entire city tile. And a bus stop doesn't use any space except for parking. Plus busses are a lot easier to make your money back from them. (In game that is)
