One suggestion might be to focus on smaller, more manageable areas of your city at a time, rather than trying to tackle the whole thing all at once. This can help break up the monotony and keep things feeling fresh. Additionally, you could try experimenting with different building styles or layouts to keep things interesting.
As for feeling disconnected from your populace in the late game, perhaps you could try focusing more on the individual citizens and their needs, rather than just the overall statistics of your city. For example, you could try creating unique neighborhoods with their own character and personality, or focus on improving the infrastructure in specific areas to make life easier for your citizens.
Ultimately, it's important to remember that games are meant to be fun and enjoyable, so if you're not having fun anymore, it might be time to take a break or try something new. Don't be afraid to experiment and try new things to keep things fresh and exciting!
I want to build up suburban areas that look and feel real. They would obviously surround a high-density area.
The problem is quite quickly there's a constant, insatiable demand for industry and I am forced to build loads and loads of offices. The balance of this looks way off to me and it quickly becomes dense and boring to accommodate them + all the necessary service buildings.
My main hope for the sequel is that homes to workplaces is massively re-balanced so a skyscraper or factory provides jobs for more than a couple of houses.
Have you tried the realistic population mod? It does exactly that. I feel it's a must have
No, but I've heard of it. Every mod I read up on seems to require some other mod to go with it which in turn needs something else. At that point I decide it looks like too much effort.
The fact the mod exists does prove the point though. I do get bored too when it gets 'dense' because I feel I'm forced to build what the game wants me to..
Instead of doing industry you can do offices and make them historical at 1st level. This keeps the building size down whilst allowing it to level up and increase the workplaces it has.
Also all unique buildings and city services offer jobs too, so they count towards I demand, which in reality is more like W as in Workplaces.
Also, industry DLC is great on this aspect. It adds tons of jobs with realistic sized buildings. Or rather than say realistic, say "believable". With DLC industries you can also totally forget the zoned industry or make just a little bit of it.
Traffic is only an issue if you create unbalanced city. 1-lane traffic is only an issue if you build bad road network. People often think that traffic is an issue, but it is a symptom of an issue elsewhere and thus it is just game's way of telling you that you've done something wrong either in road network or in zoning and haven't created well balanced city.
Yea I noticed that which is nice. I hope in Skylines 2 there is more depth to each pop. It's one of the things I liked about Anno and Surviving Mars. Each pop has needs and the higher tier pops have ever more demands to make them happy. Being able to see that reflected in the game with these pops moving around engaging more in the world you build them gives me the most fulfillment. For me it's all about The life in the city i'm building. The city isn't for me. It's for the pops so being able to see them enjoy it in detail or if things fall apart where i have to manage this, lifting them from the slums etc brings the most enjoyment. I like watching each individual citizen moving around at times. Engaging in activities, I'd also like to see more events happening good or bad such as crime, city festivals, protests etc. I'd like to see so much more of this in depth in Skylines 2.
So many people I notice want more in depth building mechanics. I just want more in depth pop mechanics lol
