Maybe try searching in google about highway stuff , I get ideas on my road layouts ( from suburbs to highway connections etc.. / in google maps )

I reduced to a blury state but got a boost by 15 FPS ( 20 fps zoomed out and 35 fps zoomed it look and roads directly above
If both 3 lane roads are going to continue travelling in the same directions, then leave it one 6 lane. It takes up less space and the traffic is faster.
If the two roads are going to split off in different directions, then split them off in different directions, like offramps. That's what the real roads are like near me. (We have a highway that does exactly this. It's a good way to accidentally end up in a different state!)

How did you do this? In my case the lanes that continue forwards are slightly moved to the right. In real life that would be catastrophic.
Firstly let me explain I make all my highways with the vanilla/generic 2 lane 1 way road, seeing that you can just upgrade them to highways when you finish. It is a lot easier and quickier to keep them equidistant this way. I can't for the life of me post screenshots, guess i'm just too old. Believe me I have tried many times even after having a printed tutorial beside me. I'll do my best to explain.
Start by having the road u want split in position facing up the screen and change the last bit into a 2 lane 1 way road.
Next, expand this road up by 11 cells and create a T intersection at the top by going 90 degrees both sides about 6 cells long.
Next, delete the first part of road you expanded straight up. This leaves a 90 degree road (I'll call crossroad), above the road you want split.
Now, the 2 cells directly in front of the road u want split leave empty, and start a new road on 1 side leaving those 2 cells empty but right next to them. You probably won't be able to start the road off 90 degree road but you don't want to anyway, start it below the 90 degree road.
Using the curve tool, come straight down 4 cells and join to road you want split.
Repeat on other side.
Now do your upgrades to highway and fix directions. All done if I have explained it clearly.
This methoth will also split the 4 cell roads as well, eg avenue to 2 avenues. The only difference is that you must leave 4 cells space in the middle instead of the 2 cells explained above. That means 1 extra cell on both sides.
I also use this method for on and off ramps. Keep in mind that the middle cells will be filled so you need to start the side road an extra 2 cells wider. These on/off ramps will be able to be upgraded to the 3 lane highway nps.
Regards
EDIT: remember, you have to use curved roads for both sides for the connecting roads, angle them out from each other to give yourself space... and don't forget to do them both in the same direction and then switch direction to whatever is desired afterwards
Thanks for the detailed explanation! I will try it in a few hours. As a matter of fact, from what I understood from your explanation, wouldn't then the lanes be pointing left and right where the road splits? Wow, CO could have just maintaind the road system from CIM2. Look at this perfect intersection from CIM2:

It might as well serve to real engineers :)
I saw it.... But it is dream have this in skylines :D
