Low FPS + low texture quality/level of detail
Hello guys,

I really don't know what to do anymore. First, after teh Snowfall update, I stopped being able to load any of my old savegames. I decided to delete all my Workshop items and reinstalled the game, only to discover that I couldnt load my savegames either. I gave up on that and I decided to start a new map.
To my surprise, having the same PC specs (GTX 660, Core i5 and 8gigs of ram), the game performance and graphics has worsened considerably, to the point where i get around 10-15 FPS on my system (i used to have a smooth gameplay with around 60fps...) in spite of low graphics quality. I don't know whats going on but I can play other games such as GTA V on middle/even high settings at 1920x1200, so either this game is poorly optimized or there's something going on...

Cheers.

...Probably because nobody has a good enough answer for you. There's a lot of threads just like this one.

It would make sense that you can't load your savegames if you disabled workshop items that were being used in that save, especially any mods.

This game isn't well optimized yet, some people seem to run smooth with lots of mods but they nearly always have high-end specs that is out of most peoples price range.

My game freezes and jitters along at no more than 15fps but I have the lowest of low dual core CPU's, of which is bottlenecking my GPU quite a lot I would imagine, gonna upgrade soon.

Well funny thing is that it used to work smoothly and it does not anymore... I am beginning to grow tired of the constant issues, you're weeks away from losing yet another user, Colossal.

I running i7- 4790 @ 4.00GHz, 16.0GB, Nvidia GTX 750 Ti.

Theres something going on. Steam, the workshop or the game? Modded, lots of assets or Vanilla. Read back through the threads lots of people are not pleased at the moment.

I too am experiencing choppy to very choppy performance. I too had a game that ran as smooth as glass up to a week or so ago. I understand that after every update saved games won’t run for a few days till everything and or everyone gets caught up ( I’m running the same city that I started When the game came out). Though the last bout of updates stopped me from having the ability to Start the game. At first(week or two ago) it would take 3 attempts before the .exe would stop crashing. A couple days later, multi starts would fail. The only way I could run the game is in Stream “off line mode”( the OffLineMode works for many people but not all this issue). Yesterday was the first time I could play Cities without putting Steam in OffLineMode. But it was uncomfortable to play. FPS now 20-24 if I don’t move map, then it drops to 0-3 fps(freezes) for 5-20 seconds then bumps up to 20 again. Fps are a bit better if I run with Steams OffLineMode. I am use to 60fps that drops to 45-30 at its worst moment. I too would like that back. The tools that were inserted into game (FineRoadHeights, terraforming tools with topographical display) are great and worth a bit more of my patients. But I agree with the frustration, It would be nice to hear that an issue is being acknowledged the parties involved.

The issues aren't the game.

The issues are the mods and assets. Remember, they are basically hacks to the game to make it run the way you want it to. modders come and go and you may have an old outdated mod, incompatible with other mods, poorly designed mod, etc.

None of these issues are with the game. Sadly the game always gets the blame.

Try sharing a save game to your workshop with a mods/asset list, so you don't lose your mods/assets list. then unsubscribe to all the mods and assets and try to load your game, if that fails then try adding mods until it loads (traffic++ is big offender here).

Then try a new game and if that fails, then there may be other issues.
