Does it take a beefy computer to run?
I'm on a windows 10 Laptop and I was just wondering if my laptop could handle it?

As it, is this a game that would lag alot? (I don't know much about processing powers etc.)

Thanks :cherrypie:

What are the specs? In case you don't know, just go to the "About" section in the system settings. Either way, I'd be careful as laptops overheat a lot while gaming, so unless you have a good laptop you'll suffer with overheating a lot.

My laptop has never over-heated with any other games I have played, so thats good. It's never had problems with running games in the past, I was just asking if this game was any different/ things i should look out for

It isn't too much better or worse than most other games. For a game of it's size ,it runs pretty smoothly, for me at least. I wouldn't be too worried, and if you do get a lot of fps lag just turn down some of the graphics settings, it won't look as pretty, but it runs smoothly.

Okay, thanks :3

You really need to post your computer's specs. Your laptop make and model will be fine.

I'm guessing you have a budget laptop and if so, you'll be limited to a few map tiles and no workshop items, plus low graphics settings and low screen resolution.

Most budget laptops are dual core with integrated Intel HD video. You really need a quad-core and a dedicated video for the full experience.

Remember, laptops are for business and casual use. They are designed to run on batteries and lightweight and just don't have enough for higher end games. This game starts out light demand. but increases very fast as your city grows.

Like I said, likely only a few tiles will be playable before it starts lagging badly.

I have already burned out one hard drive on my laptop playing this game... the laptop above the hard drive location would get so hot on the surface it was painful to touch. You should use a fan or two to help with any heat incurred...

That said, I love this game and once I am more on my feet financially, I intend to build a good enough desktop to run it, rather than hurt my laptop.

Post your specs please.

It doesn't really need a superpowered PC to run. I run it just fine on a 2009 era i7 965.The one thing you really (and I mean REALLY) need is RAM. It's a RAM hog if you use mods (and you will). I've had mine use 17 GB of RAM easily, when the whole install +mods isn't that large.

When will you people ever learn, laptops aren't meant for playing videogames. I don't care how awesome you think your alienware(dell) is, heat management is the problem.

Try not to feel insulted by my stating the obvious.

Actually it depends. Some laptops are specifically designed for gaming, and have good heat management as they are beefier, and use top quality equipment so as to not put it under a load to create less heat.

The thing that will hold most people back is graphics, especially considering the last time I checked, Integrated Graphics were not supported (ie will not run off Intel Graphics). This means without an Nvidia or AMD card, it will not run.

I'm using a mac ( my laptop broke) so it should be fine

This is completely false, while graphics may hold you back, it will not stop you from playing the game. You will just be limited to the size of your city and the number of tiles you unlock. Limited workshop items as well.

Hmm, currently, my computer is on the low side of average. but Cities: Skylines runs pritty well for me. All I'd say is be careful that you don't burn out ya graphics card.

Take a second to consider what you are saying. You are going to need a card of a certain model or higher. There is no gaurantee that their laptop will have that card, or even have a card at all - unless integrated chips are now supported.

And as for city size, that is not affected by graphics. Sure, low end ends will struggle to render it and may be slower, but the issue there is RAM for a game like CS, and most modern computers will have enough RAM and a good enough CPU to run modern games. Its the graphics they need to look out for.

I mean in my post that you can still play the game even Intel integrated graphics are not supported. But your game will be very limited.

Intel graphics aren't supported because they can handle the full 9-tiles of the game. But you can still play some tiles, at least one I imagine. I mean the game supports dx9 graphics that are over a decade old. Just don't expect to use workshop items, high graphics settings, high resolution, etc.

If you keep your expectations low, the game will play on unsupported graphics for those who really want to play. Some will be happy with a single tile, and will determine if they want to follow through with an upgrade.
