(the short short short version)
I'm a big fan of city builder since sim city on atari in the 80's.
Skyline is the best, of all time, and the only one i need.
I bought it on release (of course) and it's one of the few game i still play on a regular basis, out of my 300+ games.
As for Cities XXL and Cities Skylines, myself I enjoy each. As mentioned, in Cities XXL it may seem way more stale about the cityscape since the residential buildings' wealth level is besides density pre-picked and buildings do not upgrade respectivly do not themselves develop while one needs to make sure that they do not detoriate (which arguably a bit realistic tho since in a city of CEO level flats only there isn't really much an option for anyone else), but the whole side of it about no food when you have no farms in any of your cities (which you can make trade among themselves) and import from outside your cities has to be paid from budget and ain't cheap in large numbers especially if you have nothing to export, and similarly about water and electricity and waste capacity but also fuel and need for e.g. heavy industry output (or import) to be able to run manufacturing and then hi-tech which each needs office output, and more than that, while big building projects require some time to be built during which it needs e.g. plenty of workers for it and electricity and similarly, I find really nice about Cities XXL. And the camera options seem to have a bit more freedom in Cities XXL. But when it comes to an either-or choice, Cities Skylines has passenger and cargo trains and tourists are actually more present than just a number in holiday hotels, and there is arguably more attention to some details in some respect, and no need to worry about sort of an industrial macro-game as in XXL while wanting to just play a city sim, so overally surely a good choice to go with.
So it's ruin everything.
How you can be a major, if there is no real citizens? Only buildings?!
But if they will fix that - I'll definitely stick with Cities XL
Unless you own it elsewhere, how do you know? You do not have it in Steam.
Cities XL is ok. Just nowhere near Cities Skylines. Especially modded.
Cities Skylines is overall a far better game.
