Stop lights / Stop signs. Use?
I find precious few traffic situations that are not improved by the *removal* of stop signs and traffic lights.

Considering Cims are excellent drivers and never crash, are traffic signals as useless as they seem?

I've found that stop signs/stop lights normally help to reduce vehicles going through each other at the junction rather than the crashing aspects.

Stop signs can help to favour one road over another (concering traffic flow) but I find few occascions where it significantly improves the situation to manually override the automatic decisions by the game.

I have seen cities without any traffic control to them and yes they work. I am of the opinion that signs and lights, when used well do improve flow greatly. Signs and lights can and are powerful even though you can run without them.
This clip is about volume traffic, lane assignment, single lane traffic jam, road building...I say early on that a light is needed and I do explain and show why by the end.

The game always chooses stoplights. I only learned to turn them off after seeing traffic backing up for blocks (admittedly due to my poor design, but still).

Thanks, I'll watch this when I'm in a quiet room.

Agreed. I have a 60,000 cim city right now with exactly one traffic light and 83% traffic. The traffic light is where I have no room on the terrain to redesign the intersection. I think I've proven the light helps things there. Otherwise not a fan.

Yes, more than two lane roads does display lights as default. Good to see you found how to shut them off for improperly placed they can quickly become a pain for sure.

This too shows lights and stops aiding volume down a main road towards the highway and the off streets on the way.
