industrial export problem
i have a large area of oil factories and they always seem to lack raw resources to function when there are trucks importing oil from outside (which seems weird as they need to import oil when they produce themselves) and even the factories that seem to be functioning properly dont export anything as i see no trucks from my own factories exporting oil.
anyone know what this is about

Natural oil and ore reserves deplete quite quickly in the game and the extraction buildings convert to production buildings and import it instead of mining/drilling it.
You can use this mod to ensure a constant homegrown supply.

The only reason to build a specialised industrial zone is not to export, but to supply your generic industry and thereby save your generic industry from having to import. So, if you don't see much exports that's a good thing. But don't try to guesstimate that by watching road traffic. Use the trade overlay.

Exporting (in my Opinion) has everything to do with “Industrial transport infrastructure.” How fast and easily industry can get their stuff out of town(off the map). How fast and easily industry can get their stuff from specialised industrial zone to your generic industry, to make “Goods”. Then send that out to your commercial zones and out of town to.

In your case your “generic” industrial zone may be of a size that its requiring more raw materials than you’re recovering therefore imports are high. So your oil factories are delivering to generic factories instead of exporting.

I do agree that your opinion/suggestion would be helpful in controlling Highway and rail traffic. I see raw material exports as a great source of revenue at the moment for my city under 100k population. My 9800 exports, 800imports is fuelling the city. In my opinion my(the) goal should be to reduce imports further.

im having a problem in one of my cities that is:
1-regular industry isn't importing
2-they run out of resouces and abandon
3-comercial buildings that were importing from there have no goods but they don't import as well and abandon.

i dont have specialized industry so how is this spiral of death is happening
please help!!!!!

Check that your industry has a clear path and back to the highway. Check that your road and highway pieces are not conflicting( wrong way).

Edit: it sounds like trucks can't come in to industrial area.

I can see the appeal of extra revenue from exporting natural resources for a small city, and in my book, 100k is still small. That's fine if your intention is to keep it that size.
However, if your intention is to grow larger, then it would be more sensible to keep your generic/commercial supply need balanced while you focus on city growth.
As you say, it makes the handling of the delivery traffic much more manageable and less of a distraction.
The tax revenue is by far your biggest income, especially when you grow beyond 100k and your buildings reach max level. So, you have to ask yourself, is increasing specialised industry for export income really necessary? Or is it simply part of your plan for the purpose and function of the city to be an industrial supplier to the world? In either case, I would focus on that only after I am done with the rest of the city growth.
But whatever works for you is ultimately what's important. There's no right/wrong way ;)

sorry when i meant exporting i meant sending out oil trucks to my own generic industry. i look at my generic industry and the oil are trucks are mostly from outside cities so this game has puzzled me.
i have built a cargo train station so now they import what they need and are functioning properly but i dont see why theyre not sending any oil products to generic industry(generic industry importing outside products).

Is there a way to see how much your industrial zones are importing/exporting? I've never seen a trade tab hrm.

Did you look here?

The overlay shows your trade info for the whole city, it isn't broken down on a district by district basis.

In this screenshot, the drop info tab selection on the top left. the icon right under the transit icon is the one to see imports, exports and tourists

if you could while in game take a couple screenshots so that it shows these industries and the transport route. it could help us guess less and help more.
Screenshots hit F-12 to take picture. then from the screenshot tab under "view" on steam page select and upload. We should be able to see it from your profile. no need to post it here unless you want.

Are you using oil burning power plants? I am still importing oil because of them and I to recover oil.
Perhaps the distance from one industry to the other is slow that its faster from highway? I know that sounds foolish but it happened to me.
