Does the Advanced Wind Turbine not need a power line connection?
It seems not to. I get power generation without hooking it up to the electrical towers/wires. I see a little solar panel looking thing on it - is it beaming power over microwave or something?

All power generators have a blue area of effect. As long as it is within that proximity, power will be transferred from one structure to the next.
If there is no other structure within range of that advanced turbine, then, yes it will need pylons to link it up.

I must have encountered a bug in the game with the Advanced Wind Turbine (AWT), then, because my blue area of effect does NOT link up with anything, yet installing the AWT increases my MW produced.

There's no difference in MW output whether the AWT has pylons or not. The AWT started producing power immediately upon being placed in the water.

That's an interesting anomoly. Thanks for sharing that. I'll have to see if I can duplicate that and maybe exploit it someway ;)

Erm, just to clear things up: Power producing buildings still generate power (and thus increase the MW produced when looking in the overlay) even if not hooked up to anything. Power is generated, but has nowhere to go. That extra power isn't actually fulfilling any demand unless its linked up.

Saber, thanks.

I did some experimentation and it looks like I was wrong about it being a bug: the blue power usage triangle did shift when I removed the power lines from the AWT. So it's like there's three states:

1) Power being produced, whether used or unused
2) Power being demanded, whether fulfilled or unfulfilled
3) Power being demanded AND satisfied/connected (which seems to be the blue triangle in the UI)

I was thinking AWT was not affecting #3, but it is

Sorry guys... false alarm. :-)

Awww that's a shame.
Oh well, might as well plug this asset should you dislike pylons, particularly at sea,
