What's the best way to improve industry profitability?
So in my current city I have all four Industry DLC areas going, in addition to the four specialized areas, plus the fishing industry. Only the oil industry seems to always be making money whenever I look at it. Forestry, fishing, and mining tend to bounce back & forth between profit and loss. My farming industry though seems to lose money most of the time.

All four InDLC areas have access to transport, with farming be the closest and mining the farthest. Traffic flow tends to be in the mid to upper 70s. All four have at least two of their largest raw storage buildings that each have most of their trucks available. They do import a bit, but for the most part everything gets extracted locally.

All four also have many warehouses for processed goods. The ones built in the industrial zones are set to empty. Oil and ore both have at least one building of each type always full, whereas farming and forestry have at least one building with some processed goods of each type in them, but they're not full. There's also a warehouse for each processed goods near my unique factories which I have set for balanced so the UFs have gods available when they need them. My warehouses for my fishing industry are set for balanced so the factories will always have fish available.

The warehouses for the vanilla specialized industry areas are another matter. Each zone has numerous warehouses (in the teens for each) that are all set to empty. All the warehouses are always full, except for the five farming ones which are always empty. I'm not sure why that is.

I am not using any sort of district or services manager, as the last time I tried it seemed to cause way more headaches than it fixed.

Does this mod have that stupid 'global intensity" setting that messed with your imports/exports like the Enhanced District Services mod? Because I tried that one and while it was helpful to limit services to their respective districts and useful with telling the InDLC buildings where they can take their resources to/from, it had some other crap that would mess with the cities I used it in so I stopped using it.
This mod has some code that improves the games AI. More info can be found in the mods description. This mod will mainly help you with the traffic side of things.

But for a better answer to your post, I think my comment on the amount of worker barracks and maintenance buildings will help you the most. (comment #6).

It improves profitability because trucks that deliver the goods do not get stuck in traffic as much as they do, which in turn makes sure the processing plants and unique factories do not have to wait unnecessarily and keep on producing valuable goods.

A factory not producing goods only costs money. A factory that produces the maximum amount of goods it can is far more profitable.

Now Do you see how easy it is? How is your desire to defend your answers more important than mine? How is your right to respond to questioning more appropriate than mine?
Line's not so clear when it's you but in the hot seat is it?

It is not Sue, but my respons was still helpfull as it gives insight about making money not all people possess and it is still on-topic.

The same point I was trying to make before you decided to step in and correct me. I had really hoped that you and I were past the point of having to go down this road again.

OK now then,

Mr. Monday, When you say "best way to improve industry profitability" just exactly what do you mean by BEST? The best way with all types of industry? best way way with any industry? best way efficiently? best way economically? best way financially? or just the best way to make the most profit period? Then the best way in what sort of conditions? with or without mods? There's no point in wasting every ones time telling you something you don't want to hear. or are unwilling to try.

For instance I see you show industrial weekly profit of 109,700 where I show 159,000 and I don't have any generic or specialized industry and no fishing industry. Only DLC and no farming or forestry or factories. I do have Oil and Ore but they are less than half built as yet. You've got me beet Hands down on warehouses about 220% But then I've only built 4 so far as I'm just getting started.

I have another map with the industrial park a bit further along (50%) that is reporting 641,697.00 in profits for last week.

So how much improvement are you looking for?

What I'm trying to do is to get each areas' weekly profits greater than their losses. I figure if I can get a handle on that I can then get back to worrying about other things in the city like getting my taxes back down to 9%, or building the monuments.
BettyB (已封鎖) 2022 年 9 月 4 日 下午 2:12
OK That's a whole other ball of wax.

First of all I have NO idea what to tell you about generic, specialized and fish industries. I never use them. On the other hand DLC is a snap. Looking at the same panel that you show in your screen shot my Industry areas show Forestry, Farming, Ore, Oil, and Warehouses in that order top to bottom For last week Under INCOME it shows 36k, 39k, 31k 169k 364k under EXPENCES it shows 0.00 all the way down and Under Profit it shows exactly the same thing it shows under Income.
Don't know about you but that tells me the profits out weigh the expenses, Oh and I've never even looked at my taxes. They've never come off of 9%. I have however built one of the monuments, the Fusion Power Plant. But just cause I did wouldn't mean you'd have to. I just figured why not?
Looking at your panel it should be no problem getting DLC industry profits to cover for fishing and generic industry loses and still leave you with more than sufficient profits to fill your needs.

If you compare the numbers in the following screenshot to yours it might bring on some ideas. After all. You payed to buy the DLC, so why not use it?

To be absolutely fair and open, If I let it run at normal game speed the expenses for warehouses momentarily bounces between 0.00 and about 1,300 on a weekly basis.

Loaded your save. I've noticed that you've got 20 'Maintenance buildings' as well as 20 'Worker Barracks' for each resource type...

I've disabled these buildings (turned them off), and immediatly see a significant increase in profits (about 33.600 per week...who would've guessed?!)...

Sorry for getting back to this so late. Do you remember if you shut them all off or just some of them?

It is an artifact of how the game calculates revenue. Your industry profit is showing up as warehouse profit. If your industry ships to a warehouse and the warehouse exports the good then the revenue is allocated to the warehouse. All warehouse income is industry income of some sort. Determining how much to allocate to each industry is not possible however.

Right now the costs of these maintenance buildings and Worker Barracks far outweigh the bonus they provide in relation to the amount of industry buildings each industry area has. With the current amount of buildings you're better off without them. i.e. you'll be making more profit without them.
