With that said, as you said, you can just use workshop for free.
Lots of us have paid for the dlcs. Some in appreciation of the wonderful game they've provided us with, and some to provide funds for CS2. Some have even paid for workshop items to show appreciation.
There are some DLCs that do not add anything that you cannot take from the Workshop or other sources - i.e. content packs and radio packs. These are low bang for the buck, but I do suppose they could be useful for console players.
And then you have DLCs that add content that cannot be added in through mods.
Can you use monorails without Mass Transit or streetcars without Snowfall?
Wait for a sale if you do not want to pay the full price.
Also, do you honestly think the developers would work developing free content for 5 years just living off the base game? You seem to have little understanding of how basic economics work.
You missed it last month, it was $20 for the whole game, except Airports DLCs.
Honestly, the cost of the DLC (whether you wait on deals or use a site like InstantGaming) is not expensive. I get that not everyone wants the DLC, but to say that anyone paying for DLC is "mentally challenged" is ridiculous.
I'm wondering if you even understand what the DLC for this game consists of because it doesn't seem like you do.
I honestly wonder if some people expect just that to happen. I mean, compared to a lot of other big name games, the DLC for CS is inexpensive for what most of the DLC gives you.
No game is perfect and the same is true for developers, but in my experience the CS developers are some of the most tuned in to their customer base in the business. They launched this game with modders in mind. At the time, that wasn't as common as it is now. And in my experience they have always answered any questions I've had. If any group of developer deserve to earn extra from DLC, it's this group!
