Is there a way to influence service vehicle routes?
My city's grown quite large at this point, 100k+, and the way the hearses/garbage trucks are distributed still baffles me. I get that every building services the whole city, but i'm currently experiencing a problem with a huge build up of dead people.

My city spreads over all 9 squares, and every square has at LEAST one crematorium in it. My deathcare panel shows Crematorium Availability as double what's needed. I'm looking at one densely populated city block, and several buildings immediately next to the local crematorium have dead awaiting pickup. I click the buildings, and it shows a hearse on the way, FROM THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF TOWN. These hearses are literally driving past MULTIPLE deathcare facilities to pick these bodies up.

It SEEMS like I have enough hearses to take care of my city, but somehow I'm still having a healthcare crisis because the AI is distributing them in a completely brain-dead way. In the case of the local crematorium I mentioned, a single hearse from it could have cleared the block before the cross-town one even arrived.

And NO, traffic is not the issue. Most of these vehicles are taking well-flowing highways, they're just so physically far away that it takes several minutes to arrive. Is there some way to restrict how far these vehicles are allowed to drive?

Yes , that´s the way it works and if traffic and road layout are ok , there should be no problem . On the other side , what is your death rate ? About 400 or ?
If you did a massive residential zoning before , you´re riding a death wave now

`` taking well-flowing highways, `` means ? %flow ?
Yeah I guess it was a death wave. No idea why it was so much worse than anything in the hours I'd been playing that city before. Well flowing means I spent an ungodly amount of time designing highways that work around the brainless driver ai and stop the mile-long single-lane traffic jams

While service vehicles have the ability to travel the whole map, they typically stay within the green zones if you have adequate coverage.

Remember, high density buildings have higher demand. Higher level buildings have even higher demand. So demand can continue to grow for a long time.

As for death, this means overlapping coverage in high density residential buildings, and extra for when they level up to level 5.

As for commerce, industry, and offices. Cims rarely die at work as they retire when they become seniors and are mostly home. So job areas just need light green coverage.

Do not clump up service buildings. This way they have a broader range of coverage. i.e. more buildings in the surrounding area. i.e. eaxh building should have a crematorium to the N, S, E and W of each building. So when a cims dies and needs a hearse, there will be 4 buildings to choose from. The game won't wait for a hearse to be free, it takes the nearest one at death. If coverage is lacking (or deathwave, crisis) then hearses will drive across the map.

And as usual, keep roads clear so hearses aren't late. A single traffic jam can wipe out a lot of people if left too long in a critical area.

Try downloading Traffic Manager: Presidents Edition It adds many features, including the ability to change the arrows on the street, allow city service vehicles to ignore certain traffic rules, manuipulate speed limits (lane specific!), and so on. This should help fix the problem

They don't stay in the green zones. I have plenty of coverage in my main city area. In my rural area I have 2 crematoriums. When someone dies in the city.... quite a way off... one of the rural cars goes to get it. The city one does as well. I watched 3 show up at the same house almost at the same time. one car got the body and the other 2 went to different stops. The problem is that they are not covering the nearby deaths and creating issues with happiness. The police do the same thing. They wander off.

That's because you lack coverage. Build more and you'll be fine. Spread them out evenly or you'll have more problems. Al roads need to be green and all buildings need to be bright blue.

With wide/spreaded cities it helps to have several roads connecting opposite sides of the city without intersections/crossroads. Road crossings and stoplights slow down traffic a lot. Having a few priority roads (without to many crossroads) that connects to different sides of the city helps service vehicles a lot. I usually have a few underground roads for that purpose and a highway ring around my city.
