This game has the WORST water physics I've ever seen.
This is basically a hate thread of arguably the worst mechanics in the game.

So I tried to connect a river to the lake that my city is built around, I knew the problems this can cause so I made a backup save file just incase (I needed it).

So the river brings flowing water into the lake which makes it rise a little, I guess I should have anticipated that. So I raise the quays, and expect it to stay. It keeps rising. I raise the quays more. Then it fluctuates like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ocean going up and down and randomly gets over those quays too. THE BEST PART? Standing water in this game doesn't go ANYWHERE. It literally just keeps floating around forever, doesn't evaporate or nothing. So once that happens you're ♥♥♥♥♥♥ in a sense.

Next, I try to lower the ground at the bottom of my lake, thinking that more space will lower the water level. NOPE, what happens next is the water FREAKS OUT and causes a literal TSUNAMI that inundates my city.

All I want is to be able to make a simple river or lake system without having to spend hours on end and ultimately flooding my city. Even if I just want to make a simple, serene lake I can't because the water sources always make ocean like water flowing at 50 mph.

So, TLDR, this game has garbage water mechanics I would love to see COMPLETELY reworked.

After industries maybe make a water update? :) I can dream...

Your issue sounds normal to me. The river is flowing because the lake is not in sea level on where the river is coming from. You need to ask yourself, where does a river come from? Why river is flowing? If you answer this questions then, you don't need to ask dumb questions that the game has a worst physics.

Also the tsunami is normal too, if you create some changes below the lake it will have a wave in the upper level, but if you change it like digging a huge spaces then it will exert a huge force that creates a huge wave or tsunami.

The game only shows you the realtime results of the changes you are doing. To be precise there are a lot of videos in youtube doing a natural tsunami by digging a large space below the sea. It is hard to be an engineer right?

Hi shrek I made this profile when I was a kid several years ago and haven't changed the picture since. Thanks for contributing to the conversation.
