Heavy traffic Intersection.
Hi, which Intersection do you recommend for Connecting highway to a very dense populated area.

PD: I use no mods for traffic.

thx :steammocking:

i prefer a roundabout over/under the highway, with 2lane one direction roads to go from the roundabout to the grid and vice versa. make sure that cars first leave and then enter the roundabout.

I agree with Wie, unless there is already a highway there, I suggest a roundabout (with a highway to help keep things flowing). Don't just build a road straight across, as that will cause lots of traffic to merge into each other. Also, if you're expecting a lot of traffic at this intersection, I suggest using a three lane highway instead of an offramp/sliproad.

What I often do is place a highway intersection (of two highways merging), then merge both ends of the 'exit' into 6 lane avenues. (Literally just connect the two sides of the highway to the start of a 6 lane avenue. You may need Sharp Junction Angles for that.) That way traffic flows like a highway, even though it's an exit. And it looks pretty awesome in a metropolis, too.

I'll get a screenshot when the game finishes loading.

That's this intersection, by the way. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=447532770

Works with any highway junction that doesn't require weaving. (DON'T use a cloverleaf!)

The only problem I see with the above exchange (...and I'm sure it works fine) is that there are only 4 entrance\exits. If you need more exits, you'd have to add more "spurs" off of one or more of the exits.

Maybe a round-a-bout with many more exits. Problem: You'd have to make it larger (...or use the default large one) and add the exits you need.

Do listen to the road advice above tho'.

That is true, it's essentially an on-off . The one above is one of my favourites because it's compact and looks very nice (I love symmetrical futuristic cities), but you could also use any other one.

This works with literally any highway intersection. :)

I had quite a bit of fun building a city around this insane one: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=685775969

The issue I've found with roundabouts is the over excessive weaving. I'll admit, that is the one bit of CS that is absolutely realistic: Everyone wants to reach the overtake lane straight away.

Every roundabout I've used ended up in a massive traffic jam, unless I make it so big it contains an entire neigbourhood. xD

(I always use exit&entrance lanes onto the roundabout, never a 90º direct exit because that's even worse as they all have to stop to turn the corner.)

The above is one of the strangest things I've ever seen on CS. But hey, if it works, it works. Maybe it's the answer to his problem.

I just extend the highway through the middle of my city. I elevate it usually so existing traffic can travel under the highway. I then ass on/off ramps down the length of the highway.

Yes, i think conecting a higway to a roundabout its the best idea.
thx :pleased:
