I'm a n00b PC gamer but vanilla Cities skylines with high graphics steering seems to run ok as far I can tell. It doesn't crash for me as it did for a lot of other people it seems but they might have mod issues too.
i play it on switch but it has become boring as its so limited to what you can do.
then i tried loading a new map it would get to the end of the loading bar then crash.
i then tried lowering the graphics to medium, it still happened.
i disabled all my mods and made sure auto save was switched on.
finally the game fully loaded and actually looked quite good and played well . i could really get in to it, but about 20 mins in the game crashed for no reason. it had only auto saved part of it. i tried again then manually saved but it crashed while saving. long story short the game has a lot of potential to be great on the deck, problem is the game has always been unstable, even crashing on my PC when it doesn't like something. i really hope some good moder can find away of making the game stable if the devs cant be bothered.
hope this helps. im not giving up yet lol
I have done some research and seems like the game fills the entire ram and then crashes. Some work arounds say you can try to disable mods and dlc, haven’t tried that yet.
Vanilla and no dlcs should work but the reality seems different, I have read some people got no luck trying to run in on deck that way.
I really wish this could get fixed as it is one great game, even the switch version is kinda enjoyable, deck should have enough power to run it decently, right? Specially as it is a game released so long ago.
This game just uses a lot of resources and crashes the underpowered steam deck.
Check steam deck forums for some possible tricks to make it work better.
Remember DLCs and mods/assets will add to that.
If you want to play in the Steam Deck, best to do that in vanilla - with no modded assets whatsoever.
Besides, this game will be very power hungry too, so you may get one hour of playing time before having to recharge the console.
GeForce is a decent workaround provided you have access to a good WiFi spot, and of course, willing to fork over the cash for that.
Mods/assets will sharply increase the RAM usage.
