Why is this game (and the DLC) so expensive?
It's only 6,2 gb, and it costs 140,84 euro for all dlc's and the game itself...

some of the DLC really isnt worth it imo. They are either not very useful, limited content, or what they give is mostly locked to certain maps.

this is how i look at things...

After Dark --> Commercial Specialization, Day/Night Cycle, and some Transit Buildings. Its a useful DLC :steamhappy:

Snowfall --> Winter Maps, Trams, Winter Problems (Warm Water, Snow Plows, etc.). Its not good. :steamsad: Actually this has been said many times already. Unless you are just playing the winter maps constantly its pretty useless. The only thing it offered was the Tram.

Natural Disasters --> Destroy your city with disasters.. pretty much the extent of this one. IMO bad. It offered nothing else, quite literally besides specific disaster buildings like shelters and whatnot. :steamsad: However, some may find it enjoyable to build up a city and destroy it. So there is that. I figure its more of a novelty in that respect and nothing that would really last.

Mass Transit --> As the name suggests it adds a lot of transit based things like hubs and monorails, ferries, and blimps. Its a pretty cool DLC to have for the transit options. :steamhappy:

Green Cities --> ecofriendly. you get some specializations and a few unique buildings. this would be like a stripped down After Dark. where you get some new specializations and a couple unique buildings...but nothing that made it really compelling. if you want to go green and recycle.. use lots of solar and stuff then maybe check this one out.

Park Life --> This one works like distict specializations. You set an area as a 'park' and then fill it with stuff. That park can then make you money. TBH it sounds better than it actually is because you think "great! now those parks make me money!" Ya.. but they dont have entertainment radiuses so you kinda have to still build they other parks. Reality is that they work like tourism buildings. Also, you must build the maintenance buildings nearby or your park zones will fall into disrepair and wont be very popular. I would say its worth considering if you want to build bigger park areas.

Which DLC do I have?
Paid: After Dark, Mass Transit, Park Life
Free: Match Day, Pearls of the East
Wishlist: Industries

Well, all the DLC aren't mandatory. I know 140 euros is a lot for a one time purchase, but a lot of us have accumulated them over several years. The game also goes on generous sale often.

all you need is the base game, which is less expensive than most other pc games.
Kal Manto Jan 13, 2019 @ 4:01am
It's actually on sale very often.
Also Check https://www.paradoxplaza.com/ for sales.

I think I have only paid full price for the base game and 1st DLC. Bought most 50% off or more.
Myself I think the game is well worth it. :steamhappy:

Only a moron would pay full price this far after release unless they're really convinced they want it. There is ALWAYS a sale somewhere: https://isthereanydeal.com/search/?q=cities+skylines

I paid my money on day 1 and have chosen to buy most DLC. I have clocked up nearly 8000 hours on the game. It has been the best value of ANY game I have ever bought!

Why do new people think they NEED to buy all the damn DLC's?

None of the DLC is needed for this game, it's up to you what you want to add.

I have only bought 3 (or 4 now...) DLC's since I've owned the game, I started vanilla.

I don't think you NEED to buy it all. I still however think it's quite odd that Codex release is 6,2 gb and that apparently is 140 euro. For some textures etc?

Only 2 times I’ve paid full price were Parklife and Industries. Everything else as on sale and as far as the “radio” ones go if you can spare 256MB in memory and want to listen to your OWN music (stuff saved on your computer) I highly recommend looking into AIMP. It has a tiny memory foot print and only queues the song you’re listening to and the following 2 in memory. I have yet to see it go over 256MB in memory demand. Wait for sales, get only what you want, ignore the “radio” DLCs unless you feel like paying for more in game music. This game and publisher also has more sales than any other publisher I’ve seen.

Are you trolling or just a plain moron? Games are more than textures. If you don't want to understand that why buy games at all?

Most DLC have gameplay elements that simply aren't available in the base game. So much for "some textures".

Not trolling, just saying that the pricing is a bit steep
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

I'm a Sims player. I have played since Sims 1 came out 18 years ago. The mods are user created and free. But the game and expansions, and packs are expensive. More than this game
