are they ever going to optimize this game?
like seriously.. i love this game, but it runs like absolute crap, and makes me not want to paly for long periods of time, because i KNOW after 50k population its going to run like garbage. i am at 9fps.. with 30% cpu, 50% ram, and 50% gpu beinf utilized.. with or without mods. even if i zoom out and the fps goes back to 30, everything is crawling so slow its ridiculous, and moving the mouse around is jerky and frustrating. it's been years, and the same problem persists.. at this point, either optimize it or cut the crap with the dlcs and put out a new one with a better engine. i love this game, but it sucks really bad that i can never play it all the way through, cause the engine cant get out of its own way.

it's obviously your computer because mine runs fine at 200,000 thousand people and more.

Nah, this game isn't optomized for example if you run a lot of mods your game is going to run like poop. And this is just for building assets not game mods. Hell, Arma with a full load of mods runs better than this in both load times and performance.

well obviously if you add mods/assets to the game performance will be affected. but that is not the fault of the game, it is up to the end user to manage content within the capabilities of his/her computer.

"with mods or not" without mods and assets it still sucks.
"obviously your computer" 5930k @4.5ghz,, 64gigs ram, sli 980s. yup such a suck computer..
Metacritical Jan 16, 2018 @ 9:59am
you didn't say how you made sure it was without mods. just disabling them isn't enough, they still get loaded with the game.
bubbac2005 Jan 16, 2018 @ 10:01am
it utilizes a 1/3 of my cpu, and only half my ram and graphics.. the graphics is fine, its the insanely slow slugging simming that drives me nuts, there is another 70% of my cpu to use to speed it up, and it doesnt.. have had since day one practically, same damn problem the enitre time. but they are still churning out dlc,. instead of working on optimization or scrapping it and putting out a new engine that actually uses the resources available.

i've done clean installs multiple times. after unsubscribing to everything. the vanilla game is just as bad as with a million mods.

like i said, it's obviously your computer since it works fine for me and most other people.

edit: presumably you've tried without sli

i've tried everything. its the game.. i have no issues with cpu utilization with any other games, just this one. it leaves 70%of my cpu untouched.

optimizing games means dumbing them down. So no thank you. This game is optimized just fine. It will use up to 8-core without issues.

With poor FPS this is usually mayoral issues. Likely workshop.

Temporarily launch the game with -noWorkshop -disableMods and start a new city and report your results.

FYI: This is a simulator game, not a shooter game. FPS will always be lower no matter what as this game is optimized for CPU usage. So GPU get little time to process data as it is not needed. This game needs all of the time for CPU to run the artificial intelligence system.

Try setting the game to 30FPS and you will be fine as the game is so slow paced that you gain absolutely nothing from 1,000fps except to waste CPU time generating worthless graphics that aren't needed and would take away from CPU time.

ya'll are tripping.. how is it optimized well when using 30% of my cpu? the fps is a none issue.. i can zoom in and out and around and look al over with no stuttering. but the simulation is awful.. the cars and people stutter non stop, its takes over 2 minutes to sim through a day. (the green bar) my system isnt even breaking a sweat. but the game cant handle it.

Just out of interest, what are you running under the hood?
bubbac2005 Jan 16, 2018 @ 10:58am
in comparison.. planet coaster, the frames will drop on a massive park, to about 20fps with like 10,000 people in the park. even though the fps drops, the sim keeps going fullspeed. and uses between 75-90% of my cpu this does the oppisite.the sim slows down, and the graphical aspect is fine. i really couldnt give a rats behind less if i was getting 15 fps, as long as the sim speed kept going steady. ooor if the sim speed started to drop if my cpu was reaching 100%.. at 30% cpu usage, there should be no reason for the sim to come to a crawl. it should increase cpu usage.. that would be optimization.... not the game dying out while utlizing1/3 of my cpu.

i have windows 7 64 bit amd fx-8300 8 core cpu 8gb ram nvidia geforce gtx 750 ti and it runs fine for me..even in home streaming to a much older laptop just a couple of mods or whatever..and runs just fine..love how people will try to justify its always then games fault instead of just accepting fact that there computer may be at fault!

My FX6300 (oc'ed from 3.5Ghz to 4.4Ghz) with 16GB RAM and a 1060/6GB runs the game great - it utilizes all six cores to varying degrees at different times. The game starts to slow when the population rises above, say, 30-40k people. Days that took less than three seconds begin to take a little longer. By the time I'm over 100k, the days are taking about eight seconds. I had a city of 330k (before oc'ing) and the days were taking over 15 seconds each. Zooming to street level lowers the frame rate significantly, but when I back out, it improves greatly. Think about what this game is doing - it calculates multiple variables for EVERY cim in your city from which way to get to work to how much money they each have (which impacts things like travelling to work). On top of that, it's calculating industry/commercial production and demand, train routes, land values, tourism, and, probably toughest of all, fluid dynamics. These calculations are handled by the CPU and performed within the confines of your RAM. You need heavy-hitters for both of those. My RAM is only 1333hz, I'm considering bumping to 2666hz as I've heard it helps a lot. The game is likely not "optimized", but considering what it's doing behind the scenes, it needs some strong hardware to do it well - yours appears strong enough, but I've read that SLI doesn't play well with CS. Also, how's your MB? Could that be the bottleneck?
