Road / Lane Management Advice Needed
Hi,
Could anyone give me or point me in the direction of a guide or tips around good lane management as at the moment all traffic wants to stick in one lane

Easiest and fastest thing you can do, but not the ideal solution, is to use this mod's option called 'Dynamic Lane Selection', and set the slider to about 50-70%.

Note: It's a CPU heavy solution. If you're useing an old computer, it might be too much for your computer to handle. If you've got a good system, I suggest turning this option on.

Any other advise requires a screenshot at minimum, and a shared save at best.

Use lane mathematics to make lanes only handle traffic going in one direction only at junctions (ie: either add a lane right before or remove a lane right after a highway exit so any traffic not taking that exit will stay out of the exit lane).

Give traffic more options into and/or out of an area. Either by more road/highway access or by public transport options.

Give traffic a reason to use the other lanes by building something for them in that direction.

@ MaxFX Thanks 👍 Answers a question for a lot of people. I never really paid a lot of notice to which or how many lanes my traffic used as traffic control has never been a major factor in my reason for using CS to build city landscapes or simulations. But I have noticed a lot of inquiries about the subject. As long as I have TMPE anyway I thought "What the heck" and used the setting you suggested. I have to say. I set mine at 65% and my traffic flow not only looks much more realistic but the flow numbers are drastically improved as well. A very easy fix to a couple of issues that have long plagued a lot of people. Thanks again !

@Xeyeld: You're welcome. Another tip: Enable the option called 'Individual Driving Styles' and you'll see cars overtaking each other.

For those of you who want to know which options affect performance and why, this is what's written on the FAQ of the TM:PE's manual:

Do these settings affect frame rate or cause lag?
Yes, some of them:

-Reckless drivers (more vehicles = more workload for CPU)
-Dynamic lane selection (more vehicles = more workload for CPU)
-Parking AI puts strain on CPU (more passenger cars = more strain)

Which settings are best for full lane usage?
Use Individual driving styles, Advanced vehicle AI and non-zero Dynamic lane selection.

Thanks again... I thought so from what I remember seeing earlier but the IDS option was already set somehow. Still good to know or find out how it works though so like I said before...

Thanks a lot. :)

Full lane usage works like said earlier, give reasons to use all lanes and use lane mathematics & right road hierarchy. Don't spam 6-lane roads everywhere etc.

I got couple of cities in my workshop, have a look at them if you have the required DLC. They will give some ideas how to traffic. Also Zone 47 I made with basegame only, so no DLC or CCP needed at all.

Six lane roads work fine for me. No clutter, very little congestion, good flow, no issues. Even better if MaxFX's suggestions applied. City looks good, Plenty of money, citizens all smiles.

Moved the Dynamic Traffic to about 60% or so, nicer flow but still got cars stuck in one lane. Ill look further into this and send a screen shot if not

Perhaps these may help.

If these don't help perhaps sharing your city save and we or I can tell what is going wrong with your cities traffic. Knowing where to look to start the repairs is important.
