Why do you need Bus and Taxis again when most citizens have cars?

I am pretty new to the game and is trying maintain a population of 3K currently (I forgot my peak, this isn't my first playthrough due to trial and error). I've unlocked buses and taxis, but I still don't understand what they're for because there are cars.

Would someone help me understand please?

If tourists come into town via mass transit (train plane etc.) they won't have a car*, and thus either need mass transit that goes everywhere they need, or a taxi (or to walk).
*Well they shouldn't have a car, but I've seen tourists leave an airport with a car. Maybe it's a rental?

You need them to keep vehicles count as low as possible to prevent any traffic jam. Just imagine when the whole neighborhood need to travel at the same time, how's your road coping with that? You need some public transport to commute them to their destination so that they don't need to spawn their own cars causing problem to your city. Be sympathy to those who can't afford their cars in their 20s or 30s lol.

My bad, I'm not from a large city or america so IDK much :p I just know that having a car is convenience that public transport. No monorails here either, just buses to transport people from city to city, and taxis to drive you when you're drunk.

Cars sound like a nice way to get around. Until you get to a big city, and can't really get anywhere very well in a car as there is too much traffic. More cars doesn't mean more convenience. Thats why you want public transportation, like buses and metros. More people using less space, with less traffic as a result.

Tourist coming in from out of town via mass transit will do one of 3 things, walk to where they want to go, ride more mass transit, or take out a pocket car. Watch a train station and see how many residents or tourists take them out to drive around.

Find out where they are going and give them a way to use mass transit to get there.
