Asset, zoning and error problems with map editor
I am in the process of creating my own map via 'Map Editor'. Unfortunately, I'm experiencing several issues that come up during 'test map'.
I have installed the Loading Screen Mod which tells me that two assets cannot be loaded. One asset was downloaded via Steam, so I could simply unsubscribe. The other asset is a custom asset, probably one that I had once created via the ‘Asset Editor’. Unfortunately I don't know where to find it or if I can delete it.
In addition, I am experiencing a problem when placing roads during the 'Test Map' of the created map. The zoning grid of the roads overlap at bends and I can't draw any zones at all. I have not installed any mods that have anything to do with zoning, so I don’t know what the problem could be.
Furthermore, I sometimes get an error when I open the map editor or the playtest:
Argument is out of range.
Parameter name: index [System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException]

Details:
No details

When I click OK, another error appears:

Object reference not set to an instance of an object [System.NullReferenceException]

Details:
No details

I tried to look up what these errors mean and how to solve them, but the internet is so extensive that I can't figure it out myself.

I also get an error when I select the water tool during 'test map':

Object reference not set to an instance of an object [System.NullReferenceException]

Details:
No details

What I think is that this tool should not be present during 'test map', but that the mod 'Extra Landscaping Tools' makes the water tool visible in 'test map'. Correct me if this is not the cause of the error.
I do have to restart my entire game with these errors.

Finally, I don't understand how to actually play my own created map.

Check if you can find the asset you made yourself is in this map:
C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Local\Colossal Order\Cities_Skylines\Addons\Assets

Can you make a screenshot of the 'zoning issue'?
Not sure how to help you with the other issues. (I've only made a very simple testmap myself for testing my interchanges...)

I found the map, but the missing asset was not there.

This is a screenshot of the zoning problem:

You can use the following mods to enable/disable zoning on specific roads. Not sure they function in the map-editor though. And if they work there, no idea if the zoning settings get saved into the map. But you can always try.

I've tried the mods, but it is not the solution of the issue. I think downloading a mod is not the solution. maybe one of the mods I have installed are the source of the issue:

  • Extra Landscaping Tools
  • Loading Screen Mod
  • Hide TMPE crosswalks V3.0 [stable]
  • 81 Tiles (Fixed for 1.2+)
  • Node Controller Renewal 3.1.3
  • Fine Road Anarchy 2.0.2
  • Intersection Marking Tool
  • Precision Engineering
  • Adaptive Prop Visibility Distance
  • Hide It!
  • Find It! 2
  • Move It
  • Image Overlay 2
  • Catenary Replacer Updated
  • Network Skins (Sunset Harbor compatible)
  • Plop the Growables
  • Roundabout Builder
  • OxylonEuroSoundpackNED
  • Ambient Sounds Tuner 2.0
  • First Person Camera: Updated
  • Prop & Tree Anarchy
  • TM:PE V11 STABLE (Traffic Manager: President Edition)
  • Network Multitool 1.2
  • Harmony 2.0.4-4 (Mod Dependency)

What issue are you refering to? I linked those mod for the zoning issue you mentioned.

I'm refering to the zoning issue.

Ok, I'm no map maker myself so had to test this first.

But it's not possible to adjust zoning in the map editor at all. Because there simply isn't any zoning. Those mods I linked you therefore have no function in the editor.

This issue cannot be resolved until you are playing or testing the map in-game.

From what lve read before , it is no good idea to use a lot of mods while you are in editor . Maybe you can get a better advice in the workshop forum
I fixed my game by disabling a mod that was not compatible in map editor. The only problem I still have is the missing asset that I created in asset creator. I can't find it anywhere.

You forgot to mention which mod was the issue, so others may benefit.

Your created assets are in the hidden windows appdata folder.

C:\Users\Mark-Dell\AppData\Local\Colossal Order\Cities_Skylines\Addons\Assets

Just remember to unhide your folders, if you haven't already, in file explorer, under View tab, "Hidden Items" needs a checkmark..

Get and use

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2133885971&searchtext=find+it+2

It will work in editor and show your created asset if you remember what you named it.

A word of caution: Map editor doesn't like for you to use assets or build infrastructure underground. It also doesn't play well with assets that actually preform any sort of function. They may install in editor alright but are then subject to malfunction in-game.
