Military DLC or MOD
I would love to see a military bases DLC or update. I know it has been mentioned before but my idea would work a bit different. It can be run much like the industries. You can plot out land just like an industry and specialize it in air, land, or sea forces. Each type would grant specific bonuses like increased police radiuses, trade opportunities as well as special production facilities like the industries already provides but you would be building military assets like planes and tanks. It could even be a natural step in the production chain of the other resources. Each would provide a larger tax base population based on how big you make it and the facilities on the base, just like military people getting stationed in military bases in real life. This would naturally increase traffic in tourist areas and the commercial areas around the base itself. Maybe it would trigger surges in population when there are 'training exercises' that would temporarily increase military traffic. Just an idea and I think it could be worth exploring. At worse it could trigger a piece in the natural disasters with a military plain crash or even a nuclear accident.

Just a thought, would love feedback.

Probably best to post this in the wishlist thread rather than here as it will just disappear into oblivion.
Long time no see, but if they're prepared to Tsunami or Meteorite their city i don't think they care less lol

why on earth would anyone want state-funded terrorism in their city? have you not seen Syria recently?

Forgive me for saying, but military does not equal terrorism. Like it or not, at least in my country, military is mostly respected as honorable people. I myself served over 20 years. Besides, it was just a question and a descent suggestion.

for the looks?
well military exists so people may want to picture that.

hey, that would be funny. Syria Special Forces DLC.
Eh?
If your city ends up looking like Syria, something has gone serious wrong in your planning XD

Another DLC would be fine. Still...
We're years overdue for a game that will compete with Skylines. If they rest on their laurels too long, competition WILL eventually show up.

@jgold1701 If troops aren't terrorists, they won't be needing all those bombs then, will they?

State-funded terrorism does not, can not, and will not _ever_ solve any of the existential threats our planet faces. You can't bomb your way out of climate change, or peak oil (the imminent and permanent loss of _exajoules_ of energy), or top soil erosion, or peak phosphorous, or growing civil unrest, or any number of other systematic global issues that have incubated, festered and exacerbated under the militrist reign of terror ...which is almost always what caused those issues in the first place!

Even if, after flailing around with all the other excuses for war, you resort to the "excuse of last resort" ...that you're reducing human population, it doesn't take a genius to dismiss that garbage. Over past 20 years the US led wars in middle east have killed just under 1 million people directly, and a further 5 million indirectly [Source: Brown University's "Costs of War" project]. So the wars have wiped out roughly 30 days of global population growth... over a 20 year (7,300 day) period. And it cost $2 trillion - just in Afghanistan alone. It would cost ~$5 billion per year (there are 1,000 billions in a trillion) to end world hunger.

War is a disease, and the people who participate in it are terrorists.

By all means dont buy the DLC I am recommending then. Im sorry you feel so passionately about something that you know little about. I have been to those places and been in the military myself. You clearly dont understand what positive things the United States military personnel have accomplished around the world. This is a game forum, not a place for you to push your utopia of a world where everyone gets along that just cannot exist because human nature involves conflict. I know you dont like that but its true. I am proud of the fact I have defended my nation from those that would murder my family. I am even proud of the fact that I have even defended your right to not understand that dedication I have to a free people. Please leave your politics out of this forum tho, I only made a recommendation for a DLC that I think a lot of people would enjoy.
I think it's a decent idea for a DLC.
@jgold1701 Militarism _is_ politics. You asking to bring _state funded_ terrorism in to the game is literally a political statement; just one that you personally benefit from.

There are a plethora of Steam games which glofify organised mass murder for profit; go play one of those. Stop bringing your death cultism in to CSL.

Finally, do not ever attempt to gaslight me in to thinking the military fights for anyone's freedom; if that were the case the world would be free by now (militarists have been murdering people for millennia, it's clearly not working), rather than sliding in to authoritarianism in every country worldwide.

All countries have a military. It's an essential component of a state. To say all military are terrorists is not a reasonable statement.

I was trying to think of any other areas of human societal land use that the game does not feature other than the military, but couldn't think of any. So it would be an interesting addition. A bit niche, as it's not something that would be useful for every city, but one could say the same about the Snowfall and Natural Disasters DLCs.
Who do the military of your country defend against? Oh, wait, it's the military of other countries. "We will keep you save from people like us" lolol

Yep, you've got it. Also to defend against the military of non-state actors.

Until everyone in the world - both states and non-states - renounce warfare, and surveillance is capable of ensuring that these promises are kept, then I'm afraid that a military is necessary.

I think that’s enough of this crap. I am not a big fan of this idea, just because in my opinion this game doesn’t need it – but well, that’s just my opinion, and I wouldn’t have to buy it.

But calling any soldier a terrorist? Leave your dream bubble, and look what happens when there is no military and real terrorists appear. Do I like the fact that military is needed? No, I don’t. But I know that it would be way worse without any. BTW I was a soldier some time ago. Will you call me a terrorist now?
aubergine, while I love what you did for this game and the comunity and share your aversion to military organizations I don't see your point.

personal cars with combustion engines, landfills, incinerators, coal/oil power plants, desasters, and many more
all of them "does not, can not, and will not _ever_ solve any of the existential threats our planet faces."

I don't see how that can be a criteria to be in this game.

hey, one of my last projects was a highway construction site, doesn't mean I like the traffic jam a construction site produces or that I think it helps with anything more than repairing the highway.
my screenshots of that project got way more attention than usual, seems I hit a topic people can relate to or are emotional about.

people like to depict what they see or have seen.
I can totally understand why someone who "served over 20 years" wants to build a military base, they probably spent alot of time looking at military bases from the inside.

hey even pacifist me may have fun decorating a base... big technical equipment and a clearly planed grid allways make for a focal point one can decorate around.
military is real and I am a detailer I like to make my cities look real.
