Launching on Linux crashes when trying to load
The launcher runs fine, but when attempting to start a new game, It sucks up 13G+ of memory, then maxes out the swap file, then crashes.

Brand new install of Vanilla Skylines. No mods or anything installed.

All other steam games run normally.

Any suggestions?

Adjust your pagefile. Here's a great guide on how to do that: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2114415052&searchtext=page+file

That's the swap on Linux. It's pointless, the game sucks every bit of RAM available till it crashes. I have 16+10 GB of RAM+SWAP lmao. Never had any problem with 200 hours of gameplay till now.

There is something wrong with your system then. Using the "free" command on my system while the game is running uses about 12GB of RAM (I have most DLC, but not all) with my heaviest city running, and that's with two instances of Chrome (separate USERDIR for each), Firefox and Thunderbird running. Before launching the game (but with Steam loaded) I was just under 4GB. I've got 32GB of RAM and no swap.

You seem to be necroing every thread where someone complains about RAM. Perhaps pick one and stick with it?

Two threads and not even old.

Did you not read the post? I have 16Gb of ram and I'm running under Linux. Pagefile is irrelevant. It uses every single available byte of ram and then crashes. This has nothing to do with swap space.

What distro?

Try making your swap size larger so you don't run out of memory. Right now it shows you swapped +3gb of memory and the swap file was full. then crashed from running out of memory.

+1
Your Swap Drive should have 2x the capacity of your RAM. In this instance a minimum of 32GB. In addition to this, more modern distro's have been incorporating the traditional swap and system partitions into one primary partition. The drawback of this is that it is possible for the user space to fill up and there be not enough disk space for the swap file. Make sure you actually have 32GB free for a 32 GB swap file.

Yes, as a matter of fact I did. Did you not read *MY* post? (You know, the part where I was replying to someone else, and thus I was agreeing with you?)

Guys. It's not a problem with memory. No game should fill 16GB of RAM and 16GB of SWAP.

Here's an indication of the amount of RAM used by the game when DLC's and assets are added:
4GB RAM: Base game
8GB RAM: Base game + 100 assets, 1-2 DLC's
16GB RAM: Base game + 500 assets, 5-10 DLC's
32GB RAM: Base game + 2000 assets, 15 DLC's
64GB RAM: Base game + 4000 assets, All DLC's

This game can easily fill 32GB's of memory.

It won't, if you don't use workshop.

Workshop is not part of the game and made by users. Anything workshop you add will use more and more of your computer's resources.

I did not add anything new since this problem came.
And i used to play with way more mods with only 8GB of RAM, so stop with this non sense, please.
If you won't help, just disable notifications for this thread, thanks.

Ironically, you are the one having issues, but refuse to even try to fix you problems. But hey, it's your money and your waste of time. two months so far. We're just here trying to help you. If you don't want to fix your game, then it's your money you are throwing away.

Good luck fixing your game, but as you wish, I will unsubscribe.
