I will watch the 2 vids and pray that I learn how to play this game before I throw my MacBook Pro in the trash. :(
1) Pause the game. Build a small road parallel to the highway that connects with the highway entry and exit.
2) Put grid roads on either end. One side will be residental and commercial, the other side industrial.
3) Build power station in industrial part. Build powerlines from there to your nearest water source.
4) There you build water and waste services, watch the direction of water flow. Then build water pipes from your source to the power station.
5) Unpause the game, start zoning in your grid according to demand (represented by the 3 color bars) and make sure you bring water and power to these areas.
6) When your grid is full make it bigger. Always watch your money. After a couple of minutes you should make a profit. Later in the game you come back to this starting area and you change it up and nice it up as you like it.
In general i recommend you start small and don't plan ahead too much in your first couple of cities, just get used to the mechanics.
What does that have to do with the OP's issue?
check through the options (I forget exactly where right now) and look for keyboard mappings. I'm also on a MBP, and even with a "full" external keyboard the game ignores the PgUp/PgDown keys, so I used they keyboard mapping option to change to something that does work (Shift-Up/Shift-Down for me).
