Game Confuses Me Completely (Tutorials?)
I just bought the game because I've generally always been interested in simulator games like this one. Got a few of the DLCs on sale as well (After Dark, the Rock Station, the High-Tech Buildings Community Pack thing)- Can't afford all of them, but of the ones I could afford, those seemed the best - Green Cities will have to wait :/)

I literally spent the first 30 minutes in the game staring at the UI and trying to make sense of all the words and things popping up at me. Looked at the information for Sewage and Electricity..... as far as I'm concerned, it's all gobbledegook to me.

Anyone recommend any particularly good/helpful player made video tutorials? Are there any? I'd search myself, but I want to see what other players think about them.

I should add that I picked the Two rivers Map, and the only water source that map has is so far from where your roads start, so I'd have to build a huge road to get over there. It's all very confusing.

WOW, do I agree with you! You would think that you would get better info from the question marks. Now that I totally messed up at least 4 different cities, is there any way to get rid of them? I am even more confused b/c I'm on a Mac and have no idea how to use page up & down!

I will watch the 2 vids and pray that I learn how to play this game before I throw my MacBook Pro in the trash. :(

Yeah. I'm still not getting it. Maybe it's the map I picked. The starting road and the water source are on opposite sides of the starting play area, so I have to spend so much money with all that roading and crap.

Can you narrow it down? Is there a specific part of the game that confuses you?

Well is this your first time playing a city Builder game because if this is your first city Builder game you threw yourself into the deep end. This game is for more experienced players. I'll be honest with you this game is not recommended for people just starting out things will be coming at you that you won't have any idea how to deal with.

Tons of let's play and tutorials videos on Youtube if you just search around not to be mention Paradox stream and their uploads on Twitch and YouTube as well on how they play C:S. Though I would these type of game is more of a trial and error with lots of experimentation more than anything to only familiarize yourself.

Okay, simple steps that should work on any map.

1) Pause the game. Build a small road parallel to the highway that connects with the highway entry and exit.

2) Put grid roads on either end. One side will be residental and commercial, the other side industrial.

3) Build power station in industrial part. Build powerlines from there to your nearest water source.

4) There you build water and waste services, watch the direction of water flow. Then build water pipes from your source to the power station.

5) Unpause the game, start zoning in your grid according to demand (represented by the 3 color bars) and make sure you bring water and power to these areas.

6) When your grid is full make it bigger. Always watch your money. After a couple of minutes you should make a profit. Later in the game you come back to this starting area and you change it up and nice it up as you like it.

In general i recommend you start small and don't plan ahead too much in your first couple of cities, just get used to the mechanics.

the game tells you what do to if tips are turned on

check through the options (I forget exactly where right now) and look for keyboard mappings. I'm also on a MBP, and even with a "full" external keyboard the game ignores the PgUp/PgDown keys, so I used they keyboard mapping option to change to something that does work (Shift-Up/Shift-Down for me).
