well, theres a few things that could be happening, do you have forestry industry storage, and tree plantations etc? if so the trucks might not be able to get to the saw mill or theres just not enough wood being produced

im also assuming that you have the Cities skylines industrys DLC rite?

yes,i have the dlc. Im assuming im wont need plantation since im place in the middle of forest so im only have storage and sawmill

its sorta dumb but i can see why you do need a tree plantation anyways, you to place a tree plantation or sapling plantation thing in the forest and the plantations will produce logs that will be shipped to storage yards, saw mills etc then from there it will be exported, shipped to indutrys, etc...

You need to start the supply chain with tree or sapling plantations in Forestry AREAS created with the Industries DLC. It's in vanilla forestry industry DISTRICTS, that you just zone industry over existing forests.

im understand the logic here, but i thought plantation only needed in case of lackable natural resources , who gonna build a plantation in the middle of amazon. Thx for reply btw, kinda dissapoint how the tree work in this way, feel unrealistic

The developers have to cater to two audiences -- some players have the Industries DLC and some don't. It's just how they needed / chose to merge the two together. Just work with it and don't over-think it.

FYI you can overlay a vanilla Forestry District over a DLC Forestry Area and they work together. For example DLC sawmills WILL take trees from vanilla forestry lots. But it's more difficult to control your DLC supply chain because you can't really monitor what the vanilla assets are doing.

Likewise, if you have both a DLC industry Area and a vanilla Industry District with the same resource on different places on your map, they also work together but again, very hard to manage.

Tree farms (plantations) are a real thing. Where do you think your TP comes from? The paper producers do not just cut down any trees that they can find. Trees are expressly planted for both paper and lumber. Paper companies lease large tracts of land where loggers go in and clear cut everything after a grow period of about 20 years (I counted the rings on a tree at a papermill previously), and not much of the tree is wasted. It either gets burned in a power boiler (bark) or turned into the soil to replenish lost nutrients.

As far as in game, If you import, you are losing money. For 2 small tree plantations, you will need at least 2 small tree yards to hold raw products. You will need more storage as the industry levels up as well as production increases as more cims work in the industry and you build workers barracks (up to 20 which will increase productivity up to 200%). This goes for all industries in the DLC.

One other thing to remember is that vanilla specialized industries, while not having their own warehouses originally, can have warehouses for them, and they interact with the DLC industries as well as seen in this video.

Here is an example of logging areas where companies get timber for paper and lumber.[osupress.oregonstate.edu].

Did resources density affect building ?
- If im paint my industry area with just little natural to get the building, then i build it somewhere else with none of the resources, will it affect my extractor or processing building ?
db48x Feb 25, 2021 @ 8:51pm
Yes, resource density definitely affects farms, oil wells, and ore mines. I've no idea if it affects lumber buildings though, but I don't see why it wouldn't. In all cases what matters is the resource density at the location of the building, rather than the density inside the industry zone. Thus it's probably better to put your sawmills near the forest but outside of it, and your plantations inside it.

so extractor affect the most ?
db48x Feb 25, 2021 @ 9:15pm
Yes, extractors are affected by the resource density. Warehouses and production buildings are not.

A bunch of trees does not necessarily make a forest. At least for lumber. Lumber is harvested from certain trees. Usually conifers that grow big and tall in short order with few branches.

So the game mimics it very well. in both extractors and processors in both base game RCI zones and Industries DLC zones.

In natural resources menu, dark green painted land is perfect for extractors. The processors don't need to be on any resources.

But here is the Washington State, it has been completely deforested of all of the old growth timber. It is all replanted and sits for about 50-75 years until it gets mature enough to get enough lumber to make it worthwhile.

Most are hybrid trees that grow fast and get big quick. Most are Douglas Fir, Cedar, and Western Hemlock. But Douglas Fir is the most common as it grows the best, depending on the elevation.

But don't be fooled by a bunch of trees being a forest, then you end up importing everything.

Trees are the only renewable resource in the game. I'm surprised they didn't make farming renewable, as it is renewable, as well.

what do you mean by farming isnt renewable ? fertility gonna reduce over time ?

Since you're new to the DLC, this guide is rather helpful:
