About PC specs: 6 cores 12 threads cpu VS 8 cores 8 threads cpu which to buy?
Hi guys,
I'm willing to upgrade my PC, my motherboard chipset is an Intel Z370 and, as far as I know, it allows me to mount up to an i7-9700k, not sure I can go any further than that, maybe up to an i9-9900k but I wouldn't count on that.
Question is:
What do you think is better for playing C:S? A CPU with fewer cores (6) but more threads (12) like the i7-8700k or a CPU with more cores (8) but fewer threads (8) like the i7-9700k which has only 1 thread per core?
Please let me know before I uselessly spend a ridiculous amount of money :)
Thanks

I think the question is why do you think you need an upgrade?

As for this game, it will max out on a 4-core/8-thread CPU. Any CPU past that it just freeing overhead for other tasks.

As for 6-core/12thread CPU vs. 8-core/8-thread CPU is that the 6-core/12-thread CPU have Hyperthreading CPUs that are good for AI calculations.

While the 8-core/8-thread just has 8 full general purpose CPUs. For general games that has little to no AI abilities, then 8-core/8-thread is the way to go.

This game can control over 80,000 other units simultaneously, so it greatly benefits from the Hyperthreading cores.

My opinion.. I would not upgrade at all. It won't give you that much of a boost for this game.

So are you saying cpu isn't important for this game? Really? I thought C:S was more about CPU and RAM than GPU.
I currently have an i5-8600 (6 cores-6 threads), 64gb of Ram and a GTX 1060 6gb, don't you think a better CPU with more threads or cores would help?

No not from that CPU. If you would have a lower Version it would probably pay out but not from an i5-8600.
RAM is more important.. if you are having a lot of workshop.
What are you trying to approach with your upgrade? Higher fps?

I don't care about fps, no joke, I don't even use any software to show fps while playing. I just wanna be able to build bigger cities without problems.. and maybe starting recording while playing

I have z370 and i9-9900k so that's not a problem. Just check for compatibility on sites such as partspicker or anything similar.
I'd say it's a SSD drive that makes a difference, and don't go for SATA anymore.

I think you'll always have problems with current game version. RAM is important here, and most likely hard drive type... I didn't change RAM when upgrading last year, only motherboard , CPU and the hard drive - I've moved the whole game to SSD, and it's quite good now.
But the game will fail on loading anyway if you have more than a few really big assets, and by that I mean both the size in MB (20MB seems to be a magic line) and tris (see recommendations on CS wiki page).

Thanks man! That's exactly what I thought. I was guessing this game needed hyperthreading because of what you just said, and my CPU, which is an i5-8600 with 6 cores and 6 threads, hasn't got it. Aside from that I believe I've allready got all I need, 2 SSDs and 64gb of Ram.
I have an I5 4 core BUT RAM is desperate - the base game only requires 8GB Ram (I have 16) but it can take as long as 5 mins to load the game with all mods and assets I use - so if you are going to upgrade rather buy RAM.

I feel for you :) this game made me go from 16gb of ram up to 64gb in 2 year time... money, money, money! That's the price of having 7000 assets

my ryzen 2700x sits at 22% while runnign this game. this game hates your ram far more than it hates your cpu.

...and I keep dreaming of a city over 200.000 population.
I hate game developers who made maps so uselessly big from the start!
I hate custom assets creators and modders! I hate this workshop, which I am addicted to, showing me everyday new spectacular creations every which I can't stop myself from subscribing to!
I hate C:S YouTubers showing off their wonder-building actions which level of I'll never be able to achieve! I actually spend more time watching them than actually playin' the game! Everything to make people like me growing more and more frustrated!!
XD
PS: I <3 C:S

Ironically, it is the workshop which is killing you the most.

It is hard to add mods to the game, so it changes the rules of the the game, but how do you know which rules to change, when you don't even know the rules to the game.

Sounds like a Paradox! (pun intended)
