Do industrial commuters not use public transports so much?
I have 2 industrial commuters bus lines in my downtown avenue.
So at my downtown avenue my buses are training (by former-explained 2 bus lines and the other 1 line which leads to my leisure zone) but there are so many private cars there, and when I survey these private cars' destination then I see they are industrial commuters with their own cars.
I want my industrial commuters use buses, not their own cars to commute. What can I do?

Korean players say it is normal, but I want to hear official opinion.

Cims choose routes based on distance/time travelled, and when it comes to public transit, the number of necessary transfers. I tend to find passenger trains work better for industrial areas, especially if they are pretty far from the population core.

Mining industries are 1 tile far from residents, and the rest 3 industries are in the same tile which residents are.

But then who takes bus in this game? Bus is a car anyway and has the same speed which private car has. Isn't it?

Buses are usualy more usefull for short routes. For example for kids to drive to school, or for tourists to arrive at a monument. If you want a working bus route system, do not use many stops 5-10 max. In my current city I use busses as collectors from resident areas to the schools in that areas, and for transport to smaller commercial areas near the residential. From my 70.000 people approx only 2500-3000 use the busses. I have some routes from residential areas to a hub and from the hub to the industial areas, but people not use them very much. Buses are not very usefull for mass transport, and only very few people actualy can be transported. Busses are too small and to slow. Better use trains for longer transport routes. You can then use busses as collectors from the residential areas to the train stations in the residential area , and from the industrial areas to the other train station in the indistrial area.

Well, then I need metro to connect my residence and industrial sector?

Public transit is weighted as a preferred mode of transport over private vehicles, even more so if you have transit set to free through the district policies.

And not necessarily, there are lots of factors to take into consideration when choosing whats the right transit type. In the same way theres road hierarchy (highway to collector, to distributor, to local) theres a transit hierarchy. Generally low capacity systems (busses, trolleys) connect to mid systems (metros, monorails, trams), to large systems (trains, planes, boats).

The best way to help troubleshoot would be a photo of the city and its transit network.

Set it up so your cims walk to work. Give them pedestrian or bike paths (or a combination path that is on the Workshop) to get to said areas. You can even raise it so it goes over roads so as to not disrupt traffic.

But My mining complex is 1 tile long from residences and there is a highway between them...

They will walk that far, seriously. Make a pedestrian path over the highway (or under if you want), by using page up or page down, from your residential area to your industrial area. I have cims walking a tile and a half.

Hmm.

Give me a few minutes and I will post some screens of a test I was running a while back. This is how I know they will walk a long way.

OK, here are 3 screens of a cim walking to work. Cim Home[www.whiteknight77.net] shows where the cim in question started from. Cim Workplace[www.whiteknight77.net] shows where the cim is headed to. And overall shows how far and the route they are taking to get to where they are headed[www.whiteknight77.net]. Notice that the pedestrian path is elevated over the 4 lane road, as well as the 2 lane road where the commercial area is.

The area of the city seen is just 2 tiles in size.

Well, your method doesn't make a good picture...

That was just a test map, trying to see how far they walk as it is a topic that pops up now and then. Getting cims to walk is a good way to keep traffic down so as to not reach the vehicle limit which can have a bad effect on industrial deliveries.

As you can see by this, lots of people love to walk[www.whiteknight77.net]. They even love riding bikes.

I heard from Korean players that bicycle road is ridiculously good for commuters' traffic. But I think that walking or cycling beside highways are irrational...

Just let them teleport to work or just don't bother with it at all really doesn't matter cause industry doesn't need "commuters" anyway.
