What is up with the sudden fires?!
Played a session today and suddenly I started to get fire after fire. And it spreads really fast. I just had a fire on the other side of town (exacly the same kind of area) and the whole area pretty much burned (the parks, the schools and some houses). The firetrucks barely arrives before it had spreads to a whole neighboerhood. And this is now with smoke-detector policy enabled and large stations (which really drags down my income right now since the city is small and so on but hey)

Everything north to south in the pic burned just down. And it was its a fairly new area too, why its still big spots with nothing

Does everyone need perfect access to the firestation? This had light green at best. Does the collection of tree's has something to do with it?

Im not suprised by the fire itself, just how often it suddenly seem to start and how fast it spreads.

That's crazy, do you have disasters DLC? I think it makes fires more likely and more devastating. My fire coverage is not great in a big city but I barely ever get fires.

Yes, bought it on the sale. City started after it was bought.

Some time spent after upgraded the small firestations on each sides (had to wait some time for cash), and you can see where it earlier burned to the right.
And right when I quit I had another fire starting, this time almost next to a firestation (to the left side).

So in a very short session today, I managed to get 3 fires going. Somehow.

Try to enable 'Smoke Detector Distribution' if you have enough budget. It can reduce the fire risk. You can even build some Firewatch Tower inside the city and the detection of wildfire behind houses will be more efficient. Build more fire helicopter depot and increase budget to 101% so you gain 1 more vehicle.

Did the detector after the first big fire, did not stop second. Firewatch tower coming soon, unlocks after 8500 pop.

But that was my line of thinking because all the trees I decorate with that it think its out in the wild. Have more in the center though since its my first core

Lots of fires is a common problem players encounter after buying the Natural Disasters DLC. Like Streeto mentioned, this DLC increases the chance of fires. This was mainly intended (I think) to be forest fires. This means that every tree on the map can catch fire at any moment. Unfortunately this also applies to the trees within your city (between buildings etc.). The chance of a random tree catching fire is very small, but with thousands of trees on a map, that chance factor is multiplied.

You can use this mod to adjust the rate of trees catching fire (Natural Disasters DLC required off course :) : https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=814903880&searchtext=tree+fire

Going to try that, thanks. Becuase I like to use trees along pathways & use as a barrier between buildings

Keep in mind, that fire trucks do not go to burning trees. They only go to burning buildings. Also, fires can jump from trees to buildings.

If you use a lot of trees between your buildings, I suggest doing that after you've reached milestone 'Busy Town', when you can build a Helicopter Depot. Helicopters are send out to cover the forest/tree fires. (you also need to cover the area with a 'Fire Watch Tower', as these give a signal when a tree is on fire instead of a building.

Tip: Create a body of water (lake, pond) in area's where the nearest water source is very far. The helicopters must first scoop up water from a natural water source before they go to the fire itself. They then spray some water over the fire(s), and then need to get more water if the fires persist. If that journey is very long, the helicopters cannot keep up.

I have the same problem with my buildings catching on fire because my cims are trying to load cities:skylines are on their computers but that game sets their computers on fire when they do. :)

Yeah, I've got a fire helicopter hovering above my house when I load C:S. Really irritates my neighbours...
