I hate the Ferry

What am I doing wrong?
I put the depot in.
I placed two small docks/ stations.
then I made a simple path.

they are not working.
what are the yellow dots? I right click and it says to "Add a New Path" but I can't click on the message.
I go to another stop and left click it says, "add stop" But nothing happens.
no connection, the dots don't flash at the same time. No bright yellow line to show the connections.
Just the normal dotted line, and no ferries.

Help. please? I have screen shots of the situation on my page. I don't know how or if I can add them to the forum here.

After adding the paths, you need to set up the ferry route using the "bus stop" structure. Make sure it loops back on itself.

Handle it like a bus line
You have a path ( street )to give the direction and then you have to draw routes
Don`t connect the path to a stop , connect the path and stops with ferry lines.It is like busses , you connect the street to the sidewalk using the bus line

Thank you guys, i'm off to try again.
I guess my next question will be...how to do bus lines. but I'll save that for later, when my kids arent' around and I can cuss freely!!

Grapplehoeker, that's a great guide with pics. your line is so neat.
But I couldn't connect to the main shipping line, as they are outside my map area.

after making my lines tidy, clicking on everything yellow...and crying twice, Eureka!
