Hearses (and emergency vehicles) all over the city
Few days ago I started a new city and now I'm encountered my first deadwave in that city.
But because I'm playing not with unlimited money, I can't build like 30 crematories to counter the deadwave.

What I've noticed. is that the hearses do not go to the nearest dead person, no they go all over my city. And that is bothering me.
(Also other emergency vehicles go all over the city, if the closest building has all of his vehicles in use).

Isn't there a option or a mod, that states that the hearses go to the nearest dead person. Instead of the oldest dead person that needs to be picked up?

In that way, the hearses stay within their neighborhood, instead of going to the other side of the city to pick up a dead person. What is more efficient in the case of a deadwave.

I've searched for a mod like that, but cannot find it.

they shouldn't go all over the city if you have enough of them.
there is a pattern but it isn't easy to see.

*) it's not the hearse deciding which body to pick up, it's the death body (or the building it is in) that decides which hearse to call.
(all services and deliveries are demand driven, they react to calls.)
---> vehicles don't plan their route, they react to one call after the other making for seemingly stupid routes they take

*) while buildings don't allways call the nearest hearse, they try to find one closer than a set distance, if they can't find one they double that distance and look again.
distance is calculated as straight line distance not as road distance
all assets whithin that distance are treated equal, a hearse 10 blocks away is as good as one next door
different services use different distances
fire trucks use the shortest distance, and are on standby most of the time --> so burning buildings will usually be served by a close fire station... other services use longer distances and often have all their vehicles in use ---> so a further away asset sends a vehicle

*) ontop of that there seem to be rules like "every asset tries to have 2 hearses in use" that need to be fullfilled before the distance rule will be applied.

to make it even less obvious: the building that needs a service doesn't ask a building to send a new vehicle... it just asks for a vehicle, those that finished their initial job and are now returning to facility can also respond... if this happens twice a vehicle can end up faaar away from its facility.... if you just check on vehicles ariving at buildings you won't see if it came directly or had another job before this one... adding to confusion
What complicates this with deathcare is the fact one hearse can hold 10 dead bodies. It's unique to other services in the game.

Not exactly; garbage trucks also have this essentially. They hold (I forget the number, but say) 100 garbage, they just can pick up more than "one garbage" from the same buidling.

When you see them "compressing garbage" that's them in Vehicle.Flags.WaitingTarget mode, where they've picked up their assignment and are waiting to be given a new one to pick up additional garbage (or to be told to go back) -- the same thing that hearses do.

at least hearses will collect the body once assigned the job, garbage trucks are collecting on the way to their destination... which can lead to them being full before they arrive

Would be interesting if you could click on a building with a problem, like dead person, garbage, sickness. And then click to get to the vehicle assigned to come and fix the issue.

I guess there is a mod for that already.

The game already has a feature for tracking all traffic towards a building, no mods needed. Click on the building and then on the icon with blue signs in the top right of the info box.

Well, knock me down with a feather! - I was just about to ask a similar question to what Dubbel just posed. I look forward to giving that a try. Thank you!

Traffic Routes[skylines.paradoxwikis.com] on the Info Panel has 3 tabs. One shows all the routes traffic takes in your city. The second tab controls junctions and is where you can turn traffic lights on or off. The third tab will allow you to click on a road and show you its route, where you can make it longer or shorter or even make it look like a pretzel, and set it as a priority road on the road info panel that pops up.

Traffic routes[skylines.paradoxwikis.com] as shown on the first tab.

Also, you can click on a cim, building or road then click the routes button in the upper right corner of the info panel and see the route being taken to a destination or where the vehicle serving the building is coming from.
