Does game load from my hard drive or download from the cloud?
We all know that the game takes a long time to load. Is it loading entirely from my hard drive and it's just big? Or is it stored somewhere in the cloud and has to be downloaded every time?

Yes, and yes. Well, if you specifically saved it to the cloud, anyway.

The game loads very fast for me (less than a mibute).

I take it you have workshop OCD and got out of control? lol.

I wouldn't call it OCD, but there are plenty of nice assets on the workshop :steammocking:

I'm not much of an asset hoarder and even switch off those I don't need for a specific map or city so they don't have to load.

It generally takes 3 to 8 minutes to load - my computer's not exactly a Formula 1. I'm just wondering how much of the game is on my hard drive, which should be a consistent load speed, and how much I have to pull down from the cloud every time, for which time can vary as everybody and their dog is doing Netflix on a Saturday night slowing down the internet as a whole.

All the game's files are stored on your hard drive. The only thing saved on the cloud would be your save games if you enabled that option, however, those are small files.

I have found that even save games on the Steam Cloud are still stored on your computer as well.

Without mods the game is near instant for me, with about a dozen mods my game takes about 3 minutes to load. As for the Steam "cloud" it's mostly your PC from what I understand. There is just a hidden folder some where where save files and the like are saved... As many people have found out when they try to jump computers or if they lose it. Said "Cloud" fails to work.

I've been using cloud saves since they added them in and it has worked flawlessly for over 4-years.

They only way to lose a save is during the saving process, so if you have poor internet service provider, it may drop a bit or two and corrupt the save. But i use it a lot with no issues whatsoever and I travel a bit every year and rely on it a lot without fail. I think people just get too impatient and start deleting stuff. (which never helps, ever)

But cloud saves should always be a backup, not a main save file. If you save to cloud, you should be saving locally as well. Same with local saves. People rely on a single save game file, then have an issue with the game, then they lose the saved game forever.

There is never a bad time to save to both cloud and locally on your PC. In fact, it should be mandatory.
