Simulation Lag
I'm having simulation lag on a city with about 16K population.
I've done a 64GB pagefile, a little bit of improvement.

PC Specs:
Ryzen 3900x
Titan XP 12GB VRAM
32 GB RAM

No FPS drop, just simulation lag. I've got a fair bit of mods. Disabled all of them and had the same result.

Recently I had a mid size city (~25k) grind to a halt, and the traffic was decent like 80+% so I wasn't understanding the issue at first... but then upon closer inspection, I had just installed a cable car line, but one of the cable car stations wasn't receiving water/sewage, so I think there was like this infinite line of cable cars that couldn't dock at the station causing the entire sim to lag. As soon as I connected it to water, the sim sped back up to triple speed, etc.

So it's hard to say. There are lots of random reasons why this sim can bog down...

Even with 32GB, you might want a dedicated pagefile.

is it fixed or dynamic?

Fixed I'm pretty sure. 64GB. Didn't make a difference. I have the tool that's recommended to show much ram the game is using and it's using 7GB of physical, 14GB of virtual.

If a mod is disabled, could it still be causing problems? I have a decent bit of mods that could be the culprit.

Or is it just the bad optimization of the game?

Yes , it is better to unsubscribe than only disable them in general and to be sure there is no mod code in the background any more , you could delete the mod folder in your game files too

How bad is lag?

x1 speed is 10 seconds per day (24hours)
x2 is 6 seconds
x3 is 3 seconds.

I've unsubscribed from a lot of mods that probably had some compatibility problems. I'll update and see what that does on a new save.

I'ts not terrible, but really terrible to play with. 3 times probably takes 5 seconds. Considering my city only has a population of 15K, it's pretty bad.

well, mods are extra resources added to the game. They can use up a lot of resources, so x2 speed with all of your workshop is likely the issue.

Try to temporarily launch the game with the -disableMods flag and see how the lag is? This way you don't need to disable or unsubscribe any mods. Just remove the -disableMods flag when finished.

If it won't load, it is likely you have used a mod that is required in the game in order to load.
