Did you remember to zone it as industry (yellow) when you finished making the district? It helps if there is agricultural resources in the ground as well, or you'll have issues. But paint it all yellow.

Probably mixing up Industry Areas (from Industries DLC) with the standard districts that handle zoned industry specialization.

Yeah, it definitely sounds like you're mixing the two. If you're making a vanilla industrial area you just need to make a normal district, then click on the industrial specialization tab above the district painters so you can make the area farming, and then zone it industrial as normal. If you're making an Industries DLC industrial area when you go to paint the zone you click on the painter with the factory icon in it. After painting that you then click on the icon for the type of main building you want to make the area into.

Place a main building! :)

For Vanilla Industry: Choose an area with the resource you want to produce. Create a district over the area using Paint District over the area. Click on Industry Specializations and select the industry you want. When you zone for industries in the area, the buildings will spawn. Note that Forestry and Farming do not produce pollution.

For Industries DLC: Choose an area with the resource you want to produce. Create a district over the area using Paint Industrial Area. Place a main building for the industry you want. Once you do that, a few more buildings become available to get you started. As production increases, the area will level up and more buildings become available.

Ok, so first you make the district or cloud then select the type of specialization let’s say the industrial tab and then select farming. Then click back on to the district or cloud to transfer the choice to that district. I think you are missing a step.

When I made an Industries zone, even though I placed the Ag prerequisite building, all the yellow industrial I painted, filled with generic industrial buildings. With this DLC, do you JUST add the Industries plots? No painting yellow?
And if I want the old industries popping up, do they interact with the DLC content?
I'm thinking I need to zone AG, then insert a sub-zone of DLC for this to work.

The Industry area painted by the DLC is not used on generic zoned industry. It only connect the buildings in that DLC tab. For regular generic industry specialization you want to do this.

People. I have Industries DLC. I have set up a farming industry, went OK. I am now trying to set up forestry, using the same method, but placing the main forestry building does NOT invoke Forestry industry. The Pine District info panel shows that it IS Forrestry, but the game will NOT allow me to place any blocks. The message is 'NOT IN INDUSTRY AREA'. Is it possible this industry is broken? Or am I missing a setting somewhere? I have watched youtube and others appear to be able to set up forestry OK.

OK false alarm. I was using Paint District instead of Pain Industrial Area.

Same misunderstanding here. I tried and tried, but thank you @shirley.elrick now everything works after painting idustrial area instead of normal district

Folks I just got the Industries DLC. I am trying to follow all the guidelines to use it. My question is "How or where do I find the types of industrial buildings I need to place for specific zones? Mining or sawmills or oil or farming buildings? I place the zones with the industrial painter. Also How do I change the names of the zones?

They're found in the same place with the garbage stuff, just in different tabs.

When you go to make the industrial zone make sure you use the right district painter. It'll be the painter with the factory in the icon. You'll get confused if you just use the normal district painter because that only makes the vanilla specialized zones, and you can't place the InDLC buildings outside of their zones.

Check out this video on starting a DLC industry, and adding a vanilla specialized industry within it as well.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
