Only Forest Industry
Hi,
So I'm trying to build a functional city with only Forest industry.
It worked fine for a while but now I'm getting buildings that are being abandoned because there are either not enough people to sell to or not enough materials.
Currently I have 2 train depots for export/import and 1 shipyard.

Is it possible to only have forest industry or do I need some normal ones as wel to stop this abandonment issue I'm having right now?

It is possible to have specialized industry only up to a point. You know when you've reached that point when your commercial buildings start complaining because of no goods to sell, then close down themselves.
Keep an eye on Outside Connections. Build enough generic industry that you are not importing any goods.

Ah I see, I guess I've hit that point and need some generic industry now.
I wanted to build a 100% green city but guess that's impossible even with the green cities dlc :D

It is not impossible. You don't need any polluting industry.
You only need generic industry to supply your commercial. So, if you limit the amount of commercial to a small area, it should be able to survive and prosper on imported goods alone.
Specialised industries are a way to supply your generic industry to avoid the generic importing processed natural resources, so if you have no generic, there really isn't any need for any specialised industries.
Even if you did choose to zone some generic industry, by using the Eden Project, you can reduce all of the pollution to almost negligible amounts.

Couple tips:
- Farming will supply the Organic and Local Produce commercial specialization directly, so you can reduce generic industry this way. The IT cluster also produces goods (no truck deliveries) but don't overdo it.
- Use the Filter industrial waste policy. Level 3 generic industry barely pollutes when this policy is active.

The only way I've ever been able to have my specialized industry supply my generic industry with its products, is to have a direct rail link between the two. Otherwise, my specialized industy always exports out of the city and generic imports. I rarely use specialized industries anymore for anything other than money making exports with good highway or train connections.
