Best way to stop this tsunami?
GG RIP city?

My decently large city is about to be swamped by an 8.3 tsunami. I have all disaster/emergency-related services but what else can I do to prevent it? I'm running all DLC without mods or cheats.

In the screenshot, I took just now, it shows my city is in deep trouble.

EDIT: Don't worry about the abandoned buildings and death symbols. My city is just going through a death wave.

Build a giant wall. Use quays and the terraforming tool to build one.

I built flood walls and deep canals, somewhat effective.

Summary of what you need
Multiple radio masts
Bunkers on high ground
Disaster response units on high ground
Any major connections (roads, water power) are safe
A big wall
Canals

Ohh bugger .. an 8.3 is a city killer, you'll be lucky to survive it .. I had 2 dru's and a bit more money and was wiped out before the water receeded finacially .. I had to go back 37 game years to an earlier save and start again ... This time with all my emergency services half way up a mountain above the 8.3 watermark!

Good luck!

Here is what wiped my city off the map .. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=814123079

@CCoasty damn man that's like the tsuanmi from the movie 2012

Yeah, pretty much unless I had built sea walls hundred's of meters high, nothing was stopping this baby, my seawalls I had built right along the coast front after an earlier one were no barrier for this at all, ran straight over the top of them, straight over the highrise apartnments along the waterfront too. Worse still I had only just did a save and saved the tsunami at the same time not knowing it has already spawned.

I had a wave of this magnitude roll in just now. It was fairly early game so I only 10k population. (And I hadn't built all the related disaster buildings yet since I was still setting everything up) After it rolled through my entire city. I had 150 people left alive. RIP.

I'd love to see a first person perspective on the beachfront looking out at that wall of water coming in. That would make an awesome shot.

I didn't even build Tsunami Buoys yet. But judging that it was 4x higher then my beachfront mansions, I'm guessing "pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ high"

How about one from the foot of the hill just under the expressway ...

mate my city is a third world country after a tsunami. I build flood walls but the tsunami was just like "hahahaha what you doing" and waltzed right over it and destroyed my city anyway.

in the next update they really should provide a way to fight tsunami. maybe a coastal tsunami wall or something or a way to strengthen buildings through an expensive policy. reinforced concrete or something

If the height of a tsunami is 50m then you'll need to build a 60m (at least!) earth wall by terraforming. The canal floodwalls simply aren't meant to stop a tsunami. They're more of a retaining wall for small flooding.

I'm more surprised of the destructive potential of it. You get meteors and Tornados which just cause a huge amount of broken things that are easily replaced, but a Tsunami covers the entire map depending on its size, and will completely end your game if you are not prepared for it - Heck you can be prepared for it and it will STILL end your game.

Or you could just reload an old save. Losing 10000 pops and having to reload to a save 30years back has just given me a hard lesson on "why I should save every 15minutes"

You can cheat a little bit by terraforming a large mountain to protect your city and putting canal walls on top (not sure if this require an anarchy mod or not) to extend the height a little bit without spending tons on landscaping.
