Hundreds waiting at bus stop with no bus coming; Public transport demand mod?
I noticed huge numbers of pedestrians waiting at a certain bus stop.
At this location, I had three bus lines stopping, but after watching it for about 5 minutes, I found that none of the people waiting got on any of the buses.
Then I clicked on the people and their destinations were scattered all over the city, but not on any of the three bus routes, which explains why they didn't board the buses.

My question is: Is there some way to tell where the demand for buses is (point A to B) so I can set up bus routes for where they are most needed?

Is there a mod for this (I already have IPT and can't find it there)?
Does the Mass Transit DLC help with this?

As you said you can click on people to find out where they going.

A few tips I can give you are:
- make your public transport interconnected.
- Keep in mind cim switch about 1x or2 max transport
- Make a route from a bus to a train station where the people get the train to work in the industry
- Make a bus route from residential to commerce for shopping
- Make a route to the leisure parts mainly for tourists

Cims do not travel to visit Cims

Therefore check if public transport is helping the cims going where they need to go.
Make sure the transport is adequate, If you have to many people for the busses, make a tram line. My trams hold 300 people e.g. like the trams in Sydney

Better to reference Trams in Melbourne :)

Sometimes bus routes get broken; use Broken Nodes Detector mod to check for that.

Let me break it down into 2 problems:

1. I don't understand why hundreds of Cims were congregating at a bus stop that would never
help them get home.
If anyone understands the mechanics of what makes Cims congregate in certain places, please let me know.
Every Cim I clicked on were a long way from both ends of their journey.
I figured they were trying to walk the whole way and then gave up.
But rather than being smart enough to find the bus route that would help them, they stopped at a bus stop that wouldn't help them.
I have my whole map covered with bus routes.
If they caught one or two buses in a row, they could get home.

2. Apart from clicking on dozens of Cims and creating dozens of bus routes directly from that exact stop to all the different homes, I don't know how to help them.
It would be far more efficient if there was a mod which showed where Cims were waiting for buses and their destinations, done like a heat map, so if there were say 20 Cims going to the same area, I could make a bus route for them.
It would be silly to make a whole bus route for each sim.

Does Mass Transit DLC have any additional info panels that can help with this?

First problem, having more than one bus line stopping at the same stop. It jams up the buses having to wait while another loads... put them a block apart, the cims will walk to transfer bus lines.

Second, Check the bus as it arrives at the stop, I bet it is already full, and there for no more passengers can get on, so they have to wait. Which means you either need more buses on that line, or shorter lines.

Bus lines are not build and forget. As the city changes, so does the need for changes to public transport.

Strangely, when I reloaded the game, the passengers started getting on buses in droves.
And full buses was the first thing I had checked. I increased bus capacity to 300 using IPT mod.
Now, with things working, literally 200 passengers got on at that stop.

if you have 200 people getting on a bus at that stop then it sounds like you need to convert that bus stop into a metro station which has far higher passenger capacity.

Here is another way to satisfy popular stops. Follow the bus from that stop (where the crowd is waiting) and find the next stop where the highest volume exits (the bus) and create a shuttle line between the two stops.

In many case only a few busses are needed.

Wow, thanks for the tip.
That's helpful, although it doesn't show volume of traffic, at least it shows where they have access and gives a birds eye view.

Thanks Jason.
Yes, I thought I would have to do this, and follow the buses around.
