I want to reformat my hardrive completely but I dont want to loose my city. What is the easiest way to move this after I would no longer have ccess to it?

is just a file of anything between 4-30MB in size and so there are all sorts of ways you could back it up. You could even email yourself with it for example ;)
...and by the way, there is a difference in pronunciation and meaning between losing a save and loosing one's bowels ;)

copy your appdata folder. it is hidden so you'll need to google how to see hidden folders if you don't know how

Easiest way to save it would be upload it to the Steam Cloud and mark what mod/asset dependencies it has when you do that so you also have a list of what mods/assets you used in it.

upload the game files to mediafire.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

I'd make a copy of the full Colossal Order folder from appdata\AppData\Local\ that way maps, custom assets and saves will be backed up, then install Steam and Skylines on the new machine and just paste the Colossal Order folder over the neew one, overwriting everything.

hmm... 4GB of screenshots for this game alone lol
I think I'd have to backup a large portion of my hard drive to an external drive if I wanted to move my Steam data first and I would never trust the Steam Cloud! Horrible thing ;)

Lmao 4GB of screenshots thats quite extraordinary to say the least, your making up for not having any mods or assets there lol

My Colossal Order folder is only 1.2GB but my C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps folder is 20.4GB so that's another matter entirely

I agree steer clear of the Steam Cloud like the plague, One Drive supports up to 10GB so that might be an option.

What ever gave you the idea I use no mods or assets lol? I have more than a few... why else did you think I upgraded from 16GB to 32GB RAM years ago ;)
As to comparisons, my Colossal Order folder is a mere 5.53GB
my Appdata folder is 23GB
and my steamapps folder is 311GB, which as you say is indeed another matter entirely ;)

Well well well, i always thought you were totally vanilla so am surprised at that revelation, so, you've been whoring assets longer than me lol
I tend to format every 6 months max so my folders never get that large, my whole appdate folder is 3.5GB
As for your Steamapps folder i have no suggestions for backing that up apart from wishing you luck lol

Oh now... I was nabbing stuff from the Workshop from day one of release lol.
I continued to do so for several years and my back catalogue was extensive to say the least lol. So much so I've been able to help a few builders and YouTubers with their builds when they've wanted a no longer available asset which I had squirrelled away for safe keeping. I suppose I became a Workshop curator of a sort and while I don't sub anywhere near as many assets anymore (thank god!) I do still make it a regular activity to test and evaluate all new mods as and when they are released.

As for usage, generally most of my cities will use anything from around 1200 assets and 50+ mods. The most I ever used was something like 1500+ assets and 130 mods for Yin Yang City and one city used 4500 assets, but that was due to a terrible collection miscIick lol.
I do however, also build strictly in vanilla and my references to those builds might have been responsible for your mistaken assumption ;)

We should get rid of Steam Workshop and get you to run one instead, at least all those pesky broken mods and assets would be a thing of the past then.
A 4500 asset misclick pmsl :D
Yeah the guides and other references must have been why i thought that.

Or you can just save to the steam cloud and load from it as well, but hey, that's just me.

Only 250 not found gives a good picture of how well I had already maintained the validity of my content but still!

Hi all,
Unfortunately, things change, and so has this method. Right now, the solution given in "Answer" works only for local saves, but if you've enabled Steam Cloud saves, it's a little different. Follow these steps to locate your save file:

Step 1: find the steam folder on your PC. This will depend on where you installed Steam to. (The default install location is C:/ProgramFiles/Steam);

Step 2: From there go to User data -> [your steam ID] -> 255710 -> remote. The Steam game ID for cities Skylines is 255710, and the "remote" folder is where your save files are located.

Step 3: Copy/paste/delete/share... do whatever you want with your saves.

Hope this helps someone. Good luck! ^-^
