F**king forest fires
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1618985116

I've built a nature reserve but the f**king thing keeps catching fire every 5-10 minutes. Problem is, it's not just a few trees that burn. The whole area (like above) suddenly spontaneously combusts.

Nothing will be burning, I'll scroll around the map for a few seconds, go back to where the reserve is and have a massive area like this burning away. Fire eventually goes out, I rebuild everything that has burnt down and THE C**T STARTS AGAIN!

I've got a fire station nearby (although they do s**t against forest fires), I've got a watchtower in the reserve for early warning. I've got the fire helicopter base. I've set disasters to off. I've also tried the 'Tree Fire Control' mod but that doesn't do a damn thing.

It's getting to the point where this is becoming game breaking. What's the point in playing when I'm just rebuilding the same area over and over and over and over and over and over a-f**king-gain?

How the hell do I stop this s**t from happening?

I used the Customize mod and added 10 helicopters to each base that seemed to keep a lid on it but they still break out like mad, make sure there's a large water source near all your parks and reserves as this will help them put them out quicker.

10 or 10,000 helicopters won't change the ridiculous spread rate. The nature reserve is 3977 cells in size (I'm assuming that's grid squares?) and the whole thing is burning in a matter of seconds.

Unless the trees are grown using petrol to feed them, the only way there should be so much fire is if the reserve is getting constantly napalmed or nuked.

As for water, you can just make out in the screenshot that there's a river directly below the reserve so that's not a problem.

Basically, something is wrong with the fire's spread rate and needs to be fixed.

I had a similar issue with one of my nature reserves. With a lot of tree cover, one helicopter station just won't cut it.
I ended up with 4 and that seemed to be able to keep it under control somewhat.
I still wasn't satisfied, so I start some major pruning... I created natural fire breaks by clearing the ground on either side of the pathways 3 cells deep on both sides. I still had plenty of trees but now they were more or less in large parcels of forestland. This helped to prevent fire spreading and if and when a fire broke out, the choppers could easily handle the more localised disaster. So much so, I reduced the 4 stations and stuck with 2 instead.

As mentioned above, I've already got that mod. Doesn't do a thing.

did you play around with the mod settings? the description on the mod page tells you what you should change first to reduce fire spread.

There are only 2 settings relevant to this. 'Fire Spread Rate' and 'Fire Spread Rate (Disasters)'. Both are disabled.

I’ve noticed that forestry industry areas also seem to attract forest fires. My city has something like 15 (not exaggerating) firefighting helicopter depots and they still spread faster than the firefighting helicopters can get there.

I've just had 6 huge fires one after another, there's either been an update, or loading screeen mod which is the only mod that has been updated or finally when placing down new industry or a new park seems to spark this crap.

I've built a new city today and had several fires with no issues.

Likely a mod somewhere. Try temporarily launching the game with no workshop and see if it still continues.

I have RICO and a number of other mods that the save is dependant on so that rules me out of that one, strange thing is was playing the day before yesterday for a few hours and didn't have one fire. So if there hasn't been an update

Nope. Happens when running vanilla.

The only mod I've got installed at the moment is the non-functioning Tree Fire Control one and that was after the problem stated. Maybe starting a new game will 'activate' it but I honestly cannot be ars*d starting from scratch yet again.

Did you go into the content manager and make sure it's turned on? I've noticed that some mods are not turning on automatically when you subscribe to them. Either way I feel your pain when it comes to how rapidly the fires seem to spread now.

Do you have the Natural Disasters DLC?

A bit more Googling and reading through a lot of posts, it's looks like this DLC is to blame (at least partially). According to what I've read, the nature reserve infernos (as well as the other 2 or 3 types parks you can create), are caused the DLC allowing the props in these parks to catch fire. Without the DLC, nothing within the park(s) will burn except for the gate/entrances which fire trucks can get to.

This could also be what's causing the constant super infernos that are sweeping through, seemingly, many other player's cities like yours. It looks like the only option for now would be to disable the DLC or have your city continually burn like it's the End of Days.

I would test it myself but I've already deleted all game saves and can't be bothered starting it again. I've no intention of wasting days or weeks building another city only to have the game crap all over it again.

In answer to your recent question, yeah, the TFC mod was turned on.

Did you even bother to read any of the posts?

I've already mentioned that -
A) The problem was occurring in the VANILLA game.
B) The only mod I installed was the Tree Fire Control AFTER the problem started.
C) The NATURAL DISASTERS DLC looks like it may be causing the problem

Yet you're 'pretty sure disasters are a mod'? Maybe next time you should read what the post is about before chiming in with your opinion.
