Power lines not working
A huge area of my city is not getting power. It's connected to power lines, but the line changes from blue (active) to black (inactive) abruptly even though it's connected just fine. I've tried linking all the power sources to the one grid but that doesn't help anything.

Even active power lines are running right by the buildings, but they're still not getting enough electricity.

What am I doing wrong? This is a very big problem as it has my happiness level at well below -200.

Post a screenshot somewhere like on imgur.com for example. It will be easier to help you.

Do you produce enough electricity? This phenomenon also occurs when you don't produce enough electricity to supply the whole city. Then the buildings furthest away from the power plants will no longer receive electricity.

Or just make a screenshot with the steam overlay and upload it to steam?

Ah, okay. That might be it. It'd be helpful if you could take a look at the screenshot and confirm that this is the problem, as I'm reluctant to unpause the game and let the happiness level continue on its downward spiral.

You are not making enough electricity. Increase the budget or build more "electricity buildings". Electricity consumption fluctuates. Your city can use 250 and suddenly 200 or 300 MW. Be prepared for these drops and always keep the electricity production in the green bar. Somewhere in 75% of that slider.

EDIT: Also I think you should destroy your dam. You need strong water flow (drop) to be able produce a lot of MW in the dam. As I see it in your city it wont make much MW if any.

The top left indicator for supply and demand is in the yellow area. Maybe this is the problem. Increase the budget for electricity production slightly so that you are in the green area of the meter and see if it helps.

Overlord was faster... :P i guess that's why he's the overlord ;)

Thank you both for your help, I'll try raising the budget up. Also, yeah, I need to get rid of the dam.

With the dam showing as black, as well as 2 what look like wind turbines (directly to the right of the power availability data) those are power generating buildings that are turned “on” but not generating power; therefore just being a drain on your budget. For better generating potential, if it is available for your city, use the average wind speed overlay in the Infoview panel. It’ll look like an orange and white windsock, if it’s not available for you then go for the tops of hills and you should be good.

Sooner you build the nuclear plant the better. When i did the math I think the best building in terms of MW/cash was the advanced wind turbine (the one which can be placed on water) many times close to each other. On water it makes always 20MW per each so you can make cluster of them :)

Yeah, I've bulldozed the non-operating wind turbines and the dam. I knew about the wind map before, I just didn't bother to get rid of the ones which were misplaced.

As a matter of fact, I'm playing with infinite money on, so the money value isn't so much as a problem for me rather than global happiness levels. I'm trying to keep pollution to an absolute minimum, so I'm fine with wind turbines and the like for now.

Then you can use the nuclear power plant. It is the best solution :) Only little bit of noise polution.

Forgive the necro but I'm having an issue with houses having power failure as well. My current power usage is around 50MW and my current available power is at 130MW. Three of my power lines keep going inactive on me but the houses affected by this are surrounded by houses that are just fine. Please advise. Thanks.
