Can someone explain workshop buildings (rico/non) to me please?
I haven't used RICO but I understand it's a mod that allows you to place buildings so they don't change visually.

But how do I know in the workshop what is growable and what isn't? 90% of assets don't say, it just either has stats or says "rico ready", but what does that mean, is it something that will still naturally show up in zoned areas? or will it ONLY show if you plop it?

you can try and enable them in rico yourself but it doesn't seem to work anymore i can never get it to work.

if it says rico ready or RICO in the description than you need to place this building from the rico panel it will not grow on it's own. otherwise without rico it will just be another unique building you can place from that menu.

By default, all residential, industrial*, commercial, and office (r.i.c.o.) buildings are growable.
All others are plopable.
RICO might do other things, but the big and obvious thing it does is let you place r.i.c.o. buildings as Plopables.
Workshop assets which are r.i.c.o. buildings and Require the RICO mod have been designed to be plopped with it, and you won't be able to use them without it.
workshop assets which are labled as "RICO ready" (if the creator is doing it right) will work as normal growables if you add them to your game without having the RICO mod, but will be plopable if you do have the RICO mod.

*the latest expansion may cause some confusion as it adds plopable industry buildings. They have a more specific name to diffirentiate them, but that's easy to miss.

At least, the above is my understanding from hanging around here for... what... years now? Been a while.

Hope that helps.

:steamfacepalm: OK lol I never put that together before.

I've reread both answers like 5 times and I don't understand.
Maybe I'm not understanding the application of "unique".

If a workshop building says nothing then it's just a normal building that will show up on its own at zoned land?

What if it says something like "level 3 office unique" and just labeled "Rico". Does that mean that it will pop up on its own on office zoned AND usable as Rico?

Basically I'm wondering if there are buildings that I will never see pop up on their OWN without the mod.

usually rico buildings are made from unique buildings those are the buildings you can plop down from the games unique buildings menu.

all rico does it use that building but edits it so people can work in there and other stuff. otherwise a unique building is just a fancy big park building basically.

all rico buildings have to be plopped down from the rico menu or from find it!

OK so if a building says unique it is plopable only? I always thought unique meant something else. Here are some that I glanced at and was like... OK growable or no? I'm particularly confused at the first one. The rest I'm just unsure all together.

if it's in the Unique Building category than yes you need to plop it to use it. all those office buildings above you need to grow them in office zones. none of them offices above are rico enabled.

you can try and enable them in rico yourself but it doesn't seem to work anymore i can never get it to work.

I don't want Rico, i want them to grow naturally. The first example says Rico ready, but also says unique. So pretty much if it doesn't say unique it'll grow, even if it says Rico?

yes if it doesn't say unique building it will grow. the Residential Building 002 can be used without rico it will just be in the unique building category but no one will be able to live in it.

Awesome, thank you so much for the patient explanations. It's was really confusing before trying to figure out how all that worked.
