This mod has been available since August 2015 and remains one of the best and most used of all of the mods I have ever subscribed to. You may add your own custom brushes including a square brush.
You may use the one provided above or you could simply create your own using an image editor. Then just place the alpha image into the brush folder the mod uses and it will appear in game.

Yeah, I use that too. But like the OP, I was surprised that I had to create my own square brush. What's more useful, a square brush or the included star shaped terrain brush? lol.

Gawd... it's so long ago now, but I recall it only took me a minute or two to create an alpha image in Photoshop and then another minute to paste it into the ELT brushes folder.
