Autosave File
I had been playing for a few hours today, and because I had previously lost hours of work due to not having autosave on, I made sure I had manually turned on autosave every 10 minutes in the gameplay settings. I got to playing, and like usual, forgot to do manual saves. Then my PC restarted without warning (seperate issue I hope to resolve soon), and when I loaded the game again, My save had reverted to the state it was in when I started earlier, meaning I lost all the progress I made. There was no "autosave" file for me to load from, so I went looking for it. I found it (with help from discussions), and it had last been modified today, so it was the right one. I then put the autosave.crp into the steam folder that also contained all the other .crp files for my other cities, including the one that I had been working on, but when I loaded the game again, the autosave STILL doesnt show up for me to load. I expected it to show up as another "city" for me to choose to load, but it doesnt. Any ideas on how to get it to work?

Did you check the content manager saved game tab? Is the autosave listed there? Is it enabled?

There is only one autosave ever; the game overwrites each autosave. Frankly, the game's autosave is not very good and often crashes player's games. Try to make a habit of hitting the quick save command (I think it's F1 but I rarely use it and am not sure.) or just saving the game in the normal fashion.

I opened the content manager, and no it was not there. I know each autosave overwrites the last. I also know this game has bad autosave, but sometimes I get into playing, and dont stop to think about manually saving, beacause almost everything else has an autosave now, so it is not something I remember to do regularly

Did you try hitting the "continue" option instead of the "load game"?

I did not.
Give me a moment

I clicked Continue Game, and it loaded me into the city I played last time. (Weeks ago at least), not even the city I played today in its reverted form, let alone the autosaved version. I think because before today, it was my last played game, because CS did not register I had played at all today after my PC shut down, because the autosave wasnt doing anything, and I never remembered to save it at all.

You say you put it in the steam folder. My saves are located in: users / [your name] / appdata / local / colossal order / cities skylines / saves. Have you tried placing the autosave there?

That is where I got the autosave from. It was the only file there, none of my other saves were.

Well, I've exhausted my knowledge. Hopefully someone else can help you.

Thats where I figured this was going to end up.
I usually have a difficult question if I cant find the answer by looking for it, so Im not sure if there really is much I can do other than do it all again.

Thanks for trying to help me though.

One more thing. I assumed you first tried verifying your local files in Steam. If you didn't, do so. Right click on the game in steam, select properties. Just a last thought.

Steam did fail to validate 1 file, and it reinstalled it, but nothing changed when I opened the game. It might fix future problems though.

The solution is to save manually every so often, and to use multiple saves, even different saves in the same gaming session. At least one of such saves should be local as opposed through the Steam Cloud.
