I confest i'm simple when it comes to road design , think of it i'm just simple. I have no talent for roads and it shows. any good advice will be welcome. They don't use my highway, go figure.

They are using your highway. You only have one way into your city.

How do you expect 16,000 people to all use 1 road?

In this picture http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1344202650 it looks like you have a road heading off to the highway (bottom right). I'm guessing that you're wondering why traffic isn't coming in via that route?

Mostly because the alternative (the red route in the top/middle) is quicker. Break that connection and watch everybody pile onto the other route.

This won't make the problem go away, but it might help you gain some insight into how the traffic plans its routes, and how YOU need to plan around that. They ALWAYS (minor random anomolies aside) take the QUICKEST route. Not the shortest, the QUICKEST. So take into account speed limits.

To you or me in real life, the highway might look like the easier option. To the game engine, despite the 100 speed limit, it is a lot longer and therefore slower.

It's certainly an impressively low figure to be sure. Coincidentally I'm having trouble believing the flow rate on my current map.

The flow is that low because the highways are stuffed, In reality it is no worse than the one clogged road.
In an abstract sense your problem is that collector road serves the purpouse of the local road

Here's a 'guide' i found back when i was getting started with skylines
It comes with a savegame savegame, And a detailed post about it[imgur.com]
If you don't feel like reading it, Do this:
Add a road going between your districts that is only connected to the highways via ramps / roundabouts, It should have no more than one or two connection per "district" or "zone"

Thanks for your time guys but it seems i don't understand traffic. All my other parameters are between 80 to 85%, the people don't seem to mind all that gridlock, and neither does the commerce or offices, i have practically no industry all my people are well educated. I'm wondering if this traffic thing is realistic or not. Any good Vids on the subject to watch thanks.

I tried several configurations this morning and nothing seems to bring me over 35% traffic. It really depressing i seem to have a nack to make a good city but not its roads. 6 million plus in the bank and $12 000 per week, but can't seem to grasp the road concept. Like i said i'm simple lol thanks again guys.

Much appreciated. I'm loving this game to death i've got some new runabout and new on off ramps, but i don't seem to know where to put them. No intuition about thses things. lol thanks for the pick up.

OUFF it took some destruction but with 7 million in the bank i can afford it , i got my traffic to 73% ; it wasn't easy i have no ituition for traffic thanks again guys. I'm really looking for a vid about this let me know of one thanks.
