Running out of memory, or something else?
So I haven't played in a while (like 5 months), and now when I tried continuing playing my map, the game crashed.

Here's part of the crash log:

Unity Player [version: Unity 5.6.4p2_278fc6850ee0]

Cities.exe caused an Access Violation (0xc0000005)
in module Cities.exe at 0033:d21b9156.

Error occurred at 2018-04-02_162512.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Cities_Skylines\Cities.exe, run by J.
61% memory in use.
16346 MB physical memory [6230 MB free].
18346 MB paging file [1 MB free].
134217728 MB user address space [134203386 MB free].
Read from location 00000010 caused an access violation.

I happened to notice that it says I have ony 1MB of free paging file. What is that and any idea why it's using so much? I have a lot of assets and mods, but it did work before.

you answered your own question. you use a lot of assets so you use a lot of memory. increase the pagefile (google it, it's not hard) or reduce the number of assets.

the reason why it's doing this now, well with each patch more content is added to the base game, you were probable just about okay before, but now with the extra memory footprint of the basegame you're using too much.

I increased the pagefile to 24GB and at least it runs. Game like 13GB memory for itself

16GB of RAM, of which only 14GB will be available memory. That's how much memory you have available for the game plus custom content.
If you subscribe to more than that, then your system will be forced to write the surplus to a virtual memory by creating a page file on your hard drive.
You have an 18GB page file and there is no more memory or virtual memory left.
The solution would be to either upgrade your RAM or reduce your custom content to within your RAM capacity.
