Cities: Skylines
Can't select 3840 x 1600 resolution
Just got a new monitor and when I go in-game I can't choose 3840 x 1600 as my 21:9 resolution, the only option I'm given for some reason in the 21:9 section is 2560 x 1080.

Not working for me either, tried for an hour but nothing seems to work, including forcing launch options
I tried the hex edit tip in the following thread and it *appears* to be working. I can't know for sure because it doesn't change what the resolution in-game says but it appears to be 3840 x 1600 to me.

Hi mva5580,

have you been able to solve the problem? I got it, too...
:(
Try this thread see if any of the tips steer you in the right direction

Thanks!
But unfortunately the tips from your thread do not help. I tried all of them some time ago.
I have also
-> deleted all mods
-> changed the graphics card (RX580 -> Vega56)
-> completely rebuilt Windows and installed fresh drivers
but nothing worked... :-(

Only the tip with the HDMI 2.0 cable could be interesting. Currently I use a good display port cable and can run all applications (also games) on 3840 x 1600 @75Hz without any problems.

Thanks a lot! I will report if it worked
supported monitor resoultions, hdmi/displayport/dvi/ect... support resolutions, drivers, settings in windows, all of those could be the issue.

could also try verifying the game file or simply reinstall the game to see if it was the game causing the issue.

the game allows me to run up to 3840 x 2160, tho weird it doesnt allow anything higher, tho i can see anything higher impacting performance, but i can run most games in 8k as my gpu and tv/monitor support these, well the tv/monitor show 4k in tv mode but in monitor mode ( with game mode enabled) will go up to 8k.

Off-topic: Why people want / use 21:9 screens when they offer lower vertical resolution than 16:9 screens? Personally i always aim to as high vertical resolution as possible due to fact that it gives you more useable screen estate in many cases. All the menu bars, like in this game eat into that space and you can never really have too much of it. The screen in question what OP mentioned is same width as 4K screen bu lacks 560 pixels in height, which in comparison to my 2160 height is 25% less.
I had a GTX 1070 and connected it via this mentioned DP cable to a UHD monitor 3840 x 2160 @60Hz. This worked without any problems.

The GTX was equipped with a water cooler and I gave it to a friend who wanted to build a water-cooled system. I also gave away the UHD monitor and bought an Acer XR2 XR38 (38", 3840 x 1600, 75Hz) instead. @Stealthy: It just fitts better for my work.

And afterwards, as I said, Windows completely rebuilt with the Vega56 (wanted to test FreeSync)...

EVERYTHING works fine, except Cities Skylines
:(

i only have the option for 4:3 / 16:9 / 16:10 in the game...

most tvs/monitors are going 21:9 / 21:10 now, altho i would believe they should support lower aswell.

Most definitely aren't going that way, still a niche and will be for a good while. They only make sense in movie use anyway.

OP has 3840 x 1600 resolution. I got 3840 x 2160. As the 16:9 4K standard is well supported, i am wondering, like i said, why anyone would want anything effectively smaller? 4K has what the 21:9 has in resolution + extra area which is very usefull. On 40" TV what i use as a monitor, width is similar or even wider than on those "wide screen" versions.

Point being, 21:9 or 21:10 isn't widely supported at all, and when buying one, one always takes a risk of not utilizing it at its native resolution. In couple of years time, things may become different.
Yes, the extra wide screens are poorly support on a lot of games. I gave up on them a long time ago as most of my games (non-fps) games don't like them.

I found some that don't support them, sometimes work in windowed mode and you can stretch the game windows to fit the screen and would work. But then windowed mode doesn't work well in a lot of my games either.

I just stick to larger screens at 16:9. I almost bought the new 32:9 49" inch monitor and quickly dismissed it from these issues.

I still have triple monitors so I can play my racing games, but most of the time I play them on single monitor as well, as eyefinity and surround have thier own issues.
windowed mode is a horrible mode to play in, it has to render the desktop aswell as the game, always play in fullscreen.
are the people with this issue using dual monitor set ups ? there is a fix for refresh rates and resolution issues on youtube

*alt tabs to get link one sec*

and im back

try this, all my games have seen fps improvements and also smoothness, yet to test on C:S.

might help.
Hey guys,
first of all: Happy New Year!

@CyberVibes: a good HDMI 2.0 cable doesn't solve the problem :(

@others: no offence, but the question of whether a 21:9 monitor meets YOUR needs, is not the subject of this thread. I am very happy with it and ALL OTHER applications run fine. Only Cities Skylines sucks.

The same reason you like 16:9 over 1:1. I mean, you could use a square screen, but most people like the wider screens because it gives more screen space on the sides, which is great for movies, tv, and video games.

Thats the same reason people use 21:9. In top down video games, I can see so much more of the map. In shooters, I have such a wider viewing angle and have a better view of the virtual world.

And I'm not really giving up much to get that angle (TBH, the image quality is better than my 4k laptop screen)
