I love the disasters so far and it is cool to see the emergency services respond. The parks are fun to play with too.
I still have a lot to learn and I already have a lot of suggestions for the devs. But I want to play a bit more to be sure they are not already ingame, but here are some questions :
- Is there a way to place both directions of a highway at the same time, so they snap neatly next to each other? (highway spaghetti is real)
- Is there a day/night toggle for building when paused, so you can actually see what you are doing? The ground level can go all wonkey without warning when placing roads/buildings. I hate wastnig money when deleting roads because of this. Really wish for planning layer or at least an undo button that is available when the game is on pause (obviously it will cancel the moment you unpause).
- How can you predict whether a junction will have traffic lights? I have wasted a lot of money trying to create a roundabout without traffic lights. Placing roads just screams undo button, or planning layer.
- Can you turn off that hazy overlay when placing roads and attractions in parks?
Lay one highway and then use the snap to's to align an adjacent road precisely so that it 'follows' the first and maintains the spacing. There are Youtube tutorials that demonstrate this.
No, but the Timewarp mod allows you to switch from night to day.
Through practise and experience, you will learn how different types of road react to each other when combined.
Don't be afraid of using the Unlimited Wealth mod for learning purposes.
Also, don't be concerned about the achievements being disabled by using mods. You're not restricted to building just one city at a time. So, you may use whatever mods you wish in one city and use that for learning purposes, meanwhile you may have your vanilla city for achievements only.
I'm sorry but I have not purchased the Parklife DLC yet, so I can't offer a comment on that. However, in Options, make sure that the Depth of Field (aka Tilt Shift) slider is set to 0.
I hope that helps ;)
Four lane roads and bigger will cause traffic lights. For your roundabout, split the road joining it around 5 cells back from the junction and use one-way roads that change the angle of the merge. No stoplight in most cases.
I managed to make two types of roundabouts that work for me now. I read somewhere that I can save them somehow to be used as template later on. That will be useful.
Now on to trying to make a nice looking highway 'clover' to make a connection between two crossing highways. I am slowly getting the hang of the road tools.
