Does industry need to be placed near residental?
Sup guys,

One thing I've always wondered, but never really tried because I didn't want to waste my time; But does industry need to be placed near residential (res)? I am planning a new city and have a new area unlocked, I don't really want to put any more res in just yet.

It doesn't have to be super close..But people have to work there. So you need access. Maybe public transportation in , etc.

No, but it should be near the commercial it delivers to and near to a point of access to an outside connection, such as the highway, or later when available a cargo rail terminal or cargo port.
The routes to and from either of these should not travel through residential either to avoid traffic noise.
Use this to plan the relative location of your industrial, commercial and residential zoning.

Close proximity is not needed, actually at least a few blocks of distance is better to avoid polution or noise issues. And ideally you would have kind of triangles of residential, industrial and commercial. You get traffic between each of the two and it's best to offer people different ways to go to work or shopping or deliver goods.
Or close to a cargo station (which is connected to another cargo station near commercial). Saves a lot on trucks on the highways.
