What are some good workshop buildings?
Hello, I'm a Cities: Skylines Xbox one player that recently got the PC version from steam. I've been searching the Steam workshop for buildings that I think would help the look of a realistic city, but I've only got a limited amount of RAM (I'm trying to range the number of assets around 130) for my city. Are there any good buildings I can use?

P.S. I don't have any of the DLCs installed, so those supporting After Dark or Mass Transit won't work for me

You'll have to give a litte more information about how you want your city to look. Like a European City? There are collections for most countries. An American City? There are collections for various areas in the U.S. There are also Asian themed buildings

The vanilla buildings are fine for offices, high density commercial, industrial and low and high density residential, imo. Only low density commercial is a bit too limited.

I want it to look like a very urbanized American (or Canadian) city. Also I find even the high density buildings seem too low.

Check out King Leno in the workshop or Feinbild's Brooklyn and Manhattan collection. Khrysler too has very good looking older buildings.

I'm looking for buildings (skyscrapers) that would work in a downtown environment

Like I posted, I think the vanilla skyscrapers look fine. There are a great many buildings ot this type in the workshop one more beautiful than the next. You're going to have a hard time keeping them under 200.

Most 'urbanised' north american or canadian cities (urbanised city = oxymoron) only have a handful or two of skyscrapers, so you'd only need a selection of 10 or so from the workshop for a realistic variety.

I don't think OP is talking about true 'skyscrapers'. I think s/he just means tall buildings in excess of 30 or 40 floors. In most large American cities and the largest Canadian cities there are many of these.

Hmm... I don't think there are that many tbh. Take Seattle for example, which has 15 at the moment with 10 more on the way.
But as long as we aren't talking about New York, Chicago or Toronto, then 'many' would be a relative term. Even those don't hold a candle to Hong Kong though lol ;)
You would need 16GB of RAM just for the 1302 skyscrapers there!
I recall going to dinner at one of them. There was an interesting view from the rest room, where you could relieve yourself while looking out at the landscape via the floor to ceiling glass wall from almost the top floor. It was a little disconcerting to say the least ;)

Yeah, I was thinking something like Toronto because I live there

Well, I'm not going to be that dramatic when it comes to the number of skyscrapers (12GB of RAM makes 130 my max amount), but some of the vanilla buildings could maybe also help with that count

Seeing as while the Workshop has an extensive amount of skyscrapers to choose from, there is something you can do to gain a little variety from a limited amount of assets. If you use the Move It mod, you can combine assets together to form interesting new buildings and groups.
The Youtuber Yuttho has adopted using this mod for his Astergea city project and it's worth watching how he applies it. I find his work very inspiring...

You can do more than 130 with 12gb. I have ~400 with 8gb but mine are mostly small low cost assets; I like variety in low density commercial. Just be careful with the building's sizes in mb. Many of them are very ornamented which contributes to thier "weight" in the game; their lods also add a lot. With unique buildings a larger size is ok but you have to place them manually. Be careful with 'buildable buildings' as their size will be multiplied by how many times the game randomly places them in your zoned areas.

And I'll say again, the vanilla buildings give a very respectable look to your city, so you shouldn't need many more than what the game offers.

I'm just limiting the number of assets to 130 because when I had over 300 my computer was lagging like crazy, even with Loading mod. Now, it's still a little laggy, but it functions well enough for me to play. Also, I'm not being bias about the vanilla buildings at all... the game just generates tones of the same kind.
