Tourists love good public transport to get around the city. Make sure there are plenty of choices available for them to reach those attractions.
Think about building more types of intercity mass transit such as a port and an airport. And again, make sure there is good public transport for those inbound passengers to transfer to.
Naturally, this is going to mean a lot more expense costs for public transport, but if you want tourists, you'll have to pay for them.
Also, don't expect any huge return for your investment from tourism. It does pay, but it's not very profitable.
Says the man who enjoyed 350k a week from more or less all commercial income. Mostly, it appeared, unless I read it wrong, from tourists handing him their moolah. ;)
I have busses and taxis waiting near the train station.
I've never been one to rely on them though and I have always tried to push the game as far as it can go. So, back in July 2015, I built La Motta as a sort of concept city, where I built all sorts of feats of engineering to commemorate 500 hours played.
One of the goals I had for that 'city of dreams' was excellent tourism, and that is what I managed to get. Now bear in mind, that this was July 2015 and long before After Dark was released, but still... this is why I said good public transport is key ;)

I am getting around 3500 tourists per week. That is with 150k population.
Is there a max or limit on the number of tourists, depending on what you build to draw them in and your transport system.? Or is there a hard cap on that number.?

There is something else to consider though. When I build a city to focus on tourism, then I have to always be mindful of those tourist numbers. There is the maximum limit for agents/units in the city. You do not want to meet or pass that limit, otherwise there are all sorts of consequences.
You can use this mod to monitor the situation if you're ever getting close as your city grows larger. Normally, I would be watching this like a hawk when my city reaches around 300k pop, but if it's a tourism focused city then I'd have to start watching from around 200k pop due to the additional tourist numbers.

Thanks for that.
In my city I have dropped industry and just got a little commercial, in two shopping / attraction areas. They do not use trucks from the outisde but are fed by cargo rail. Still that is additional traffic.
What I had not considered, thanks for that, is the tourist load placing a load on the agent limit, which of course makes sense.
I just concentrated on making sure that I have a good transport hub to keep the majority of them out of their pocket cars, which it does.
I have that CSL mod - it informed me of the need to consider the value of using the TMPE Parking AI, when I had 90,000 pop I was already approaching half the limit of parked cars, so I dropped that. As noted I didn't think about tourists adding to the agent limit numbers.
This is how mine looks now.....

It's actually closer to 5000, it is just that I'm carrying about 3800 on the public transport, the rest are arrving by car or using their own pocket car.
Thanks, I have now noticed those Citizen instances creeping up...!
Does it really matter on those Citizen instances, meaning that as they represent the Cims not going to work or services, just the people walking around I assume, will that be a "real" issue when it is maxed or will the game just be able to repreent visually the number of those but still function ok....?
Is there something that I can do, I'm thinking that the walking tourists add up here, to reduce that instance...?
Perhaps I'm just hoping that I might be able to carry on as there is so much to do wit hthis city and yet I can see one hard coded limit approaching already.
