What to do when you get bored with a city?
I often build cool cities but then the growth slows dramatically and I get bored. I really don't want to start a new city, as I invested a lot of time and planning with the current one. What do you usually do in this situation? I usually spend time making things look nice with props as well as cleaning up messy areas. I also check the statistical views to see if there are any needs not being met. I have plenty of land available. Just looking for ideas on what others do?

Years ago, I was always building cities and would have at least four or five on the go at the same time, plus a couple more for the purpose of getting the Steam Achievements. They all had one thing in common. I had planned each of them, meaning I had a clear idea of what I wanted the completed city to be. While I'm nowhere near as active as I was then and now I build perhaps 3 cities per year, the method remains the same. I get an idea, I plan for it and then see it through to completion.
So, it's never a case of getting bored for me. It all hinges on whether or not I'm satisfied with getting everything I wanted the city to be done. If for whatever reason, I need to put the build on hold, due to real life or playing another game, or whatever, then I'll come back to it a later point and continue. But boredom, is never a reason to stop. If it were, then simply taking the dog for a walk and clearing my head should do the trick ;)
If you find that you're bored, then stop, go do something else and come back to it later. Don't try to force yourself to create while you're bored. It won't work as well as it will when you're really inspired.

I go back. For me it not so much going back to older cities, my city is as old as the game. I go back to older districts, areas, streets or even intersections and examine what can be improved there. I mention intersection for often rebuilding an intersection to better accommodate traffic even if its adding a lane to the north bound lanes will often trigger me to change much more that what I started.
IN short when I get bored or uninspired I go fix or improve what I have built in the past, but my city is as old as the game itself. So there is much to mess with, for the more I play the more things I learn. Even if is just better handling of the tool for creation.

I build one city per week, each session lasts 12 hours or more each day, so in total every month I finish 5 cities (that's 60 cities per year). When I get bored of building cities, I destroy them for fun in a Youtube video each quarter (each video contains 15 cities I made in the past three months), but they are not saved and I just quit it without saving.

Here is my latest destruction video for Q1 2019 (last quarter):

Q2 2019 (current quarter) destruction video coming out on June 2019.

Q3 2019 destruction video coming out on September 2019.

Q4 2019 destruction video coming out on December 2019.

I struggle with this same issue! I love playing so much, but I get frustrated or bored once things start to feel out of my control. I can get wrapped up in the details or small failures and loose the bigger picture. One thing I am trying to help keep me on track with finishing a large city is recording my games and starting a youtube channel.. I'm not just interested in lots of views, I think it helps me stay commited. If I feel that there may be a viewer out there waiting to see how my city grows, I will be more likely to keep working.
I also get inspiration from watching other youtube videos (imperial jedi and czardus are my favs)
Check out my first series and see if it gives you inspiration.
