Game Loads Halfway Through
Hey all

I recently bought all the recent DLC, have loaded the city with a few must-have mods and a fair amount of assets. Game works fine. Went and downloaded a couple more mods, and the game would only load halfway through and stop there. Checked the mods and all seem to be working okay, but still did the whole swap-in/swap-out thing, then eventually unchecked all the recent ones and the game will still not launch.

Even downloaded the loading screen mod which seemed the get the bar all the way from one end to the other, but just gave me a blue screen, cut with a little bit of the original loading screen at the bottom, music still playing.

Not sure if this is a bug or some mods are severely broken. I've checked my RAM, played around with my content manager, and even verified game cache. Anyone else having this issue ?

Thanks

Your system looks fine, when you used the loading screen mod did you notice any red text in the box to the left or the box at the bottom center?

I think it's probably a resource issue so you might want to try upping your pagefile but check for broken assets first.

Go to the mods option in game, enable reports, note the location
Load a save, report is created

To view the report
Open File Explorer/Windows Explorer.
Type %AppData% into the address bar and hit enter.
Then navigate to Local/Colossal Order/Cities_Skylines/Reports and open the assets report, broken assets should be clearly labelled for you.

To up your pagefile:

Set page file to 2500 Initial size (MB) and 54000 Maximum size (MB)
*Make sure you have enough free space on the hard drive if you set max to 54GB
(if you don't have enough free disc space then just do 48000 or 36000 at minimum)

Before any more guessing, share your log file so we can find out what's causing the problem.

Guessing lol I remember you using the output log to try diagnose another member in the forums this week and your method didn't work, so just because i do things different to you doesn't mean my way is wrong, i've helped hundreds of ppl resolve their issues with what you call guessing lol

I seam to be the only one thinking along these lines...but here goes... Gpu is below the MIN for the game.

The GT 740 was an Entry level card released in 2014. It only cost $89 when released. And it only has 1 GB of RAM on a 128 bit interface.

On the other hand the MIN for the game is a GTX 260.

https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/geforce-gt-740.c1987

Notice that the GT 740 is @ 100% and the compare puts the GTX 260 @ 145% that is quite a difference.

The 448 bit memory interface is what would make the GTX 260 play this game well.

More then likely playable, heck PPL play this game on Integrated GPU..?? But i wouldn't expect to much. OR and a ton of Mod's -n- assets.

@camaro_69 It should just about handle it - I used to use a GT 640M with only 512 KB vram (it was slow, like, really slow lol).

I know , but that MIN is so outdated its not even funny now, do you think it could run it NOW with all the DLC's + Mods + assets?? Just sayin...

I was on Industries version with all DLCs, 2000 assets and 90 mods on that old rig, so yes. Game log will give more insight in to what's causing the problem.
CyberVibes Jul 23, 2019 @ 4:27pm
He can boost his pagefile to take care of the assets the DLC's provide, he'll never get to use them all tho very little people do, so 18GB of ram and a 50GB pagefile will more than take care of them as long as he doesn't oversub from the recommendations in the workshop, his cpu isnt the greatest but will handle a mid sized city, and as long as he monitors the games performance so he finds his machines limits, mods shouldn't be a big issue either.

Side note :off topic....Kinda?

I saw that ...18 GB RAM...How do you even get that amount ...Matched pairs =
2, 4 , 8 , 16 , 32, 64...??
Never heard of 18?? Some weirdness with HP? OR i am just old ..

10GB as standard the rest must have been an upgrade.

My specs are okay with running the game and I've never had this problem before. Always loads right up and runs good enough.

@Richie: Please share log file (see link above) - it will likely contain details of whatever problem is causing the load to fail.
